New Maleficent Trailer Released

Walt Disney has released a brand new official trailer for the upcoming Maleficent, which casts Angelina Jolie as the titular fairy tale antagonist. But this time around, the story will center around Maleficent’s backstory, revealing that maybe she’s not exactly evil incarnate, and that her actions are at least partly backed by motivations that the average person can relate to.

One of the key takeaways you can get from the trailer is Maleficent’s true form. It seems that she used to have wings, and once fought alongside forest creatures against a human army. The movie will also feature her sharing a conversation with Aurora. Make no mistake about it, the trailer shows that she’s not a saint and deserves every iota of fear that her name commands.

One of the key scenes in the film include a glimpse at Angelina Jolie’s slightly lighter play on the villain, going for a playful chuckle than a maniacal laugh. You can check out the trailer below:

It seems like Disney is meticulously rearranging their slate in order to optimize the returns. We have previously heard of the change in Pirates of the Carribean 5’s release date, now it’s the Angelina Jolie-starrer Maleficent.

According to Walt Disney Studios’ announcement, the live action Sleeping Beauty spin-off will be released on May 30, 2014 – a little bit earlier than the original July schedule. The film focuses on the origin of the villain, specifically the series of events that hardened her heart and drove her to put a curse on the baby Aurora. The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maleficent, Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville.

Kung Fu Panda: The Series starts production

Kung Fu Panda: The Series starts production

Nickelodeon has had tremendous success with the hit series The Penguins of Madagascar, based on the DreamWorks Animation film franchise Madagascar. Now, they’re taking that same logic and applying it to another DreamWorks movie, Kung Fu Panda, giving us the creatively named Kung Fu Panda: The Series. We’d heard about this awhile ago, but can now finally confirm that the show is in production. The series, which will be produced at Nickelodeon’s Animation Studios by Cheryl Holliday, hopes to grab at least special guest appearances of all the original movie cast, though the rumor now is they’ll be using sound-alikes to replace the celebrity voices, like Jack Black and Angelina Jolie.
