Astro Boy to be Rebooted

Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) isn’t exactly new to reboots, with the recent CG film managing to introduce the franchise to a new generation, albeit in a form that many long time fans find to be somewhat way below the mark as far as quality is concerned. Fortunately, it seems like the Astro Boy franchise will get another chance to introduce itself to fresh new eyes, as news from Annecy Festival’s International Animation Film Market reveal that Shibuya Productions and Tezuka Productions, along with Caribara Animation are joining forces for a new 2D/3D CG Astro Boy series.

Get Ready for PARANORMAN Activity in 2012

Stop motion animation, despite the technology being older than majority of Toonbarn’s readers, is still very timely and movies that have used it has aged well, since it produces an animation style that intentionally looks crude and dated. Portland’s LAIKA animation studio knows this, which is why it chose stop motion animation as the style to use for its 2012 movie, ParaNorman. Scheduled for release on August 17, the movie is written by Coraline storyboard supervisor Chris Butler and directed by Sam Fell of Flushed Away and Astro Boy.

OK, not that much like Superman, but you get the idea. With just days to go before the movie hits your local theaters, are you getting psyched up to go see it? If not (if that’s possible!!) maybe the latest trailer after the break will change your mind.
