Beavis and Butt-Head are back on MTV

It’s happened. They’ve returned. We knew it was coming. And now, it’s here. After more than a decade, one of the crudest, most divisive, and simply funny cartoons is making its way back to MTV, ready to repeat various fits of laughter. It is, and they are, Beavis and Butt-Head. Everything starts up tonight, October 27th, at 10pm on MTV – the same place the boys called home in the mid 1990s. Much has changed in the time since they abandoned their couch; namely, the TV they used to make fun of doesn’t exist any more. Gone are the days of music videos on MTV, replaced by reality shows, Jersey Shore, and other programs. Luckily, creator Mike Judge decided he’d just have B&B take advantage of the situation, and let them make fun of those, instead. Uhh huhhuh huh.

Fourteen years later, and Beavis and Butt-Head are still… well… Beavis and Butt-Head. As one of the most beloved, and polarizing, animated series of all time, Beavis and Butt-Head helped solidify MTV, and cable as a whole, as a viable animation outlet. The teenage duo will star in 24 brand new episodes, adding to the 200 that ran from 1993-1997, all courtesy of creator Mike Judge, whose King of the Hill ended it’s own extended run on Fox just recently. No longer limited to the world of music videos, Beavis and Butt-Head are now free to roam across all of MTV’s shows, passing comments on Jersey Shore and 16 and Pregnant with …uh huh huh huh… glee! And while it appears Daria will not visit any more, that could possibly be because she’ll have a revival of her own, soon enough.

They were not bright. They were not polite. They were not clean or rich or polished in any way, shape, or form. But man oh man, Beavis and Butt-head were funny; an absolutely one of a kind, unique animated experience. Mike Judge, the shows creator and the voice behind each character, parted ways with the boys to work on his next series, King of the Hill. With a successful 13 season run of Hill behind him, the rumors we reported back in July are true: Judge will revive the Beavis and Butt-head series. For 14 long years, we’ve had nothing but the memory of MTV’s animated classic. The toon, which has since become an incredibly popular cult hit, broke ground with everything from over-the-top story lines to critiquing the network’s own music videos. No official date has been set for the new episodes to hit, but targets are aiming for this summer. Uh huh huh huh. Heh Heh.

GPS and directions-providing services have not only become more and more prevalent over the years, they’ve become more sophisticated! The gadgets can pinpoint exactly where you are at any given time, then talk you through the series of turns it will take you to get to your destination. Thankfully, you’re not limited to just some eerie robot voice – though I guess that could make it pretty cool on occasion. Companies like NavTones have made it their job to offer iconic and fan-favorite voices to take people from here to there. The latest up to bat is MTV’s star of the GEN X world, Daria. Straight from Lawndale to your GPS, this anti-hero brings her cunning wit and dry sense of humor to every trip. But don’t be fooled by her monotone delivery – Daria will have you cracking up and home in time for dinner with Quinn and the rest of the Morgendorffer gang.

Beavis and Butt-head return to MTV

It’s been 13 years since animation fans have heard the iconic giggle and chuckle of the two teenage dimwits that made MTV toons famous. But now, all this time later, it looks like Beavis and Butt-head are making their return. The slacker toon originally reached an end in 1997 but has seen a rush of popularity in the days since, with multiple replays, a theatrical release, and DVD collections. There was even a spin-off series Daria, with creator Mike Judge moving on to create King of the Hill. And though so much time has passed, the reports say neither Beavis nor Butt-head will have aged a bit, remaining in their perfectly awkward teenage forms, commenting and mocking TV shows and videos as they watch them. …heh heh…

It was only officially announced a few short weeks ago, but the official release date for Daria: The Complete Animated Series will soon be here! The box set collection, which contains all five seasons of the toon, hits stores on May 11th. As a special bonus, the package will also feature both Daria movies. The series originally debuted as a spin-off to MTV’s Beavis and Butt-Head series in the mid 90s before starting it’s own run. Since that time, Daria has evolved into its own cult classic, warranting this 8-disc collection. Anyone remember the show?
