Ben 10 goes Humungousaur in Heroes United

For weeks now, we’ve been anxiously looking forward to the first ever meeting of Cartoon Network superstars Ben Tennyson and Rex Salazar, aka Ben 10 and Generator Rex. Generator Rex could have an advantage, with a body full of nanites ready to form giant, pummeling hammers. As far as Cartoon Network goes, Ben 10 is king. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about the original Ben 10 series, the in-between Ben 10: Alien Force, the current Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, live action movies, CG specials or upcoming toons; Ben Tennyson reigns supreme. But there’s an uprising and loyal army of fans behind Man of Action’s newest hero, Generator Rex, and they’re hoping that Rex gets the drop on Ben when the two meet up in Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. On November 25th, Cartoon Network plans to unveil just that, delivering the goods on the ultimate team up. Err, match up. Err… well, they’ll both be in the same special. So lets take a look at some of what makes Generator Rex so fun, and so awesome, as we see the hero in action.

Ben Tennyson unknown in the world of Generator Rex

Ben Tennyson unknown in the world of Generator Rex

Our pal Ben Tennyson has been through a number of changes through out the years, even beyond the ability to shape shift into various alien forms. One of the most damaging, which occurred between the Ben 10: Alien Force and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien era, was having his secret identity exposed to the world. Now, wherever he or one of his alien forms goes, everyone knows who is really beneath it all. But then, somehow, Ben shoots over to an incredibly similar, but different Earth. Here, in New York City, there appears to be an alien threat that Ben must deal with, along with Humungousaur, Lodestar, Diamondhead, Rath and others. The problem is, no one recognizes the alien forms. Worse yet, no one recognizes Ben. …and who the heck is this Generator Rex guy…?

We’ve set our DVR, but we’re not entirely sure the technology is powerful enough. Whatever the case, on Friday, November 25th, we’ll risk it, for that is the day that Cartoon Network brings us the Man of Action teamup we’ve been waiting for, Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United. Since originally hearing of the project a few months back, we’ve only received bits and pieces as far as what we can expect. Thankfully, information from the San Diego Comic Con, and more recently the New York Comic Con, have been much more forthcoming, particularly noting the tagline: there’s more than one way to go hero.

Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL Gameplay from Comic Con 2011

Not that long ago, Cartoon Network teamed with Papaya Studio and Crave Entertainment to bring Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion to the Nintendo 3DS. Well, now, thanks to some great footage from New York Comic Con 2011, we see that development has really come on strong for the home edition, Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL, out soon for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii. Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

A few months back, ToonBarn ran a story about the potential crossover of the Ben 10 universe with the newly created Generator Rex universe. Seeing as how both are iconic heroes on Cartoon Network, and both have ties to Man of Action Studios, it made perfect sense — at least for the April Fools joke that we ran it as, Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien: . A good chunk of our readers were fooled by the fake story, but a good number of others couldn’t wait for such a thing to actually happen. …and now, it appears it will. At Comic Con 2011, Cartoon Network announced a crossover special event that sounds exactly like the one we faked, but this time it’s for real! Ben 10 and Generator Rex will team up in a special one-shot called Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. Confusing Ben in Humungousaur form as an E.V.O., Generator Rex decides to take the fight to Ben – only to discover they’re on the same side. Further details on the special are scarce right now, but we’ll get you the latest right here soon – stay TOONed!!

Ben 10 and Rex merge for Generator Rex Ultimate Alien

Ben 10 and Rex merge for Generator Rex Ultimate Alien

Cartoon Network has some big ideas! So, let’s say you have two of the most popular action franchises of all time, what do you do? On the one hand, there’s Ben 10. He’s had an incredible string of success in the original series, the sequel series Ben 10: Alien Force, and now the third Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. On the other hand, there’s a new series from the same Man of Action creation team, Generator Rex, that has cultivated a whole new, large audience. Apparently, the CN thinks they’re both so successful, they’re going to create a new spin-off with the two concepts merged! Thus, we have the new series Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien. Set to debut April 1st of next year (April 1, 2012) the series will follow Rex’s adventure with an Omnitrix of his own. Will the alien transformation abilities clash with Rex’s own nanotech? Will Ben be a good instructor, as he guides Rex on his new quests? Will Kevin clash with Agent Six? We’ll have to wait to find out!
