Toonbarn Giveaway: Cheech & Chong’s Animated Movie Blu-Ray

Note: Contest is open only to people who live in the US (no PO Boxes please).

I recently came across a news post revealing that 20th Century Fox is prepping a Cheech and Chong’s Animated Movie Blu-Ray, and is penciling it in for an April 23 release. Being a major fan of the iconic comedy duo, I naturally wanted a copy for myself. So that I can relive classic toker jokes like “Dave’s not here, man.”, only updated with the absolute latest in animation techniques.

In case you’re too young to be familiar with the comedic duo (Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong have made numerous appearances in various films and shows since disbanding, including That 70’s Show and Robert Rodriguez’ Machete), here’s Amazon’s description of the DVD:

You’re not hallucinating. It’s the legendary toker jokers Cheech & Chong as you’ve never seen them before — in their very first Animated Movie. Catch the buzz as their most outrageous routines and laugh-out-loud lines from their Grammy Award-winning albums come to life, including “Dave’s not here,” “Let’s make a dope deal” and more. With help from a , bud-lovin’ body crab named Buster, Cheech & Chong deliver the ultimate comedy high and give you the munchies for more

So I called 20th Century Fox and demanded a free copy of the Blu-Ray.

Unfortunately, the girl who answered the phone refused to send me a copy even after I have introduced myself as “Taylor Swift.” The situation went from bad to worse and threats were made (mostly coming from my end, the poor lady on the other end was just trying to calm me down).

Things settled down when I started breaking up with each and every one of their marketing staff over the phone, followed by threats to write “a really passive aggressive pop song about it.” A really nice rep named Kelly soon took over and promised to send us a copy on the condition that it goes to the readers of the site, not me.

So yeah – You, lucky Toonbarn reader, can get [one] free copy of Cheech & Chong’s Animated Movie on Blu-Ray instead of me. All you need to do is COMPLETE THESE FOUR EASY STEPS:

Mulan 2-Movie Collection on Blu-ray 3/12

In case you missed it the first time around (or in case you didn’t but want to relive the experience), Walt Disney will be giving you a chance to own both Mulan and its sequel in a single Blu-Ray pack with the release of the Mulan 2-Movie Collection on Blu Ray format this March 12, 2013.

The Mulan 2-Movie Collection will contain both the original film Mulan and its sequel, Mulan 2 as well as a whole host of extra content (because it wouldn’t be worth much of a home video release without bonus content). By now, everybody already knows the story of Mulan – a young girl disguises herself as a young man named Ping, in order to take her elderly father’s place in the army, as the Huns are getting ready to invade their country.

The sequel, Mulan II, might not be as popular as the first since it was created in 2004 as a direct-to-video film instead of having a proper theatrical release. Many of the original voice cast members reprised their role, with one notable absence being Eddie Murphy (who originally voiced Mushu).

Mulan II picks up months after the events of the first film, with Mulan and her new fiancé General Li Shang embarking on a special mission: escorting the Emperor’s three daughters across the country in order to meet their soon-to-be fiancés. The film tackles topics such as loyalty, relationships, arranged marriages, freedom of choice, trust, and finding true love.

Walt Disney has provided a bunch of teaser clips just to tide you over until the March release. Bear in mind that these are not representative of the overall video or audio quality of the Blu Ray release, as these are downsampled in order to facilitate faster streaming over the web.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2-Movie Collection on Blu-ray 3/12

hunchback of notre dame 2

This coming March 12, 2013, Walt Disney will be releasing the Hunchback of Notre Dame 2-Movie Collection on Blu-Ray format, so that you can own the continuation of Quasimodo and the gang’s adventures in home video format. The video contains both the original film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and its sequel The Hunchback of Notre Dame II.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 may not be as popular as the first animated Disney feature, but it’s not surprising since it’s a direct-to-video sequel released back in 2002 by Walt Disney Animation Japan. What’s so special about The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 is that unlike many Disney direct-to-video sequels, it features the entire key cast of the original, except for a couple of key characters whose original actor already passed away.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 is set in 1488, picking up six years after the events of the first film. Captain Phoebus is still serving as Captain of the Guard in Paris, in spite of the death of his previous superior (Judge Claude Frollo), he and Esmeralda have already married and borne a six year old son named Zephyr. Quasimodo is already accepted as part of Parisian society, but he still chooses to live in Notre Dame with his gargoyle friends, serving as the cathedral’s bell ringer.

Walt Disney has provided a bunch of clips from the upcoming Blu-Ray release, just to give you an idea on what to expect from the film (please note that these clips do not represent the actual quality of the Blu Ray release. These are significantly lower in quality, in order to facilitate smoother streaming over the Internet):

Disney Celebrates Peter Pan’s 60th Anniversary with Diamon Edition Blu Ray Release

Disney Celebrates Peter Pan's 60th Anniversary with Diamon Edition Blu Ray Release

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Walt Disney’s classic take on the tale of The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up, Peter Pan, which also gave us loveable characters that are still recognizable on their own to this day, such as Tinkerbell, Captain Hook, and the Hungry Crocodile, all of which have since turned up in different spin-offs.

In order to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the classic tale, Disney will be releasing a digitally restored and remastered version of the original film (which was originally released in 1953) with high definition picture and sound via Blu Ray and DVD formats, as part of their Diamond Edition series.
