Luken Communications and Classic Media bring Gumby, Magoo, and Fat Albert to PBJ

Classic Media has a whole huge lineup of cartoons in their stable; Archie, Boris & Natasha, Richie Rich, Casper, Dick Tracy, Fat Albert, Gumby, Underdog, He-Man, She-Ra, Mr. Magoo, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Rudolph, Frosty, Transformers, Voltron, and so many others. That’s something that Luken Communications has been studying heavily – so much so that the network is teaming with Classic Media to create a new network called PBJ. Similar to Discovery and Hasbro’s The Hub, this channel will launch with a stable of classic series (animated and otherwise) as well as begin to develop new shows for a new audience. Be on the look out for PBJ to hit your cable system this summer.

DQ Entertainment's Casper's Scare School ghouls up Cartoon Network Halloween

Not this Halloween, sadly. But next year’s spooky Halloween holiday will prominently feature Casper the friendly ghost as the translucent hero appears in Casper’s Scare School. The DQ Entertainment animated series is working with Moonscoop Group and Classic Media to develop the 3D and CG toon, set to also premiere in France on TF1. The second season will reach American audiences on Cartoon Network by Halloween 2011, which seems pretty appropriate, timing-wise!

Get ready for a new Underdog, Mr. Magoo, Casper, Rocky and Bullwinkle

Many toons have come and gone over the years, but few have remained “classic” in the true sense of the term. August Media Holdings and the properly named Classic Media group are hoping to dust off some true classics, breathing all new life into famous animated icons. Included in the mix are George of the Jungle, Underdog, Mr. Magoo, The Lone Ranger, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Richie Rich, and Little Lulu. Red Kite will handle many of the updates, which are essentially reinventions, in addition to testing the market for live-action hybrid movie possibilities, in the style of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Are you a fan of the originals, and do you want to see any changes to the toons? Sound off!!

Seth Rogen joins DreamWorks Animation’s Boo U

Seth Rogen joins DreamWorks Animation's Boo U

He’s quickly becoming the number one star of voice acting in animated projects. He’s starred as Mantis in Kung Fu Panda, and will reprise that role in Kung Fu Panda 2. He was Morton in Horton Hears a Who. He slopped along as B.O.B. in Monsters vs Aliens, played a Ship Captain in Shrek the Third, Hogsqueal in The Spiderwick Chronicles, and even guest starred as Lyle McCarthy on an episode of The Simpsons. Seth Rogen is no stranger to the world of voice acting, and DreamWorks is not done with him! According to recent reports, Rogen will star as the lead character in DreamWorks Animations’ upcoming 3D, CG film titled Boo U. His character, a ghost, of course, is sent back to school to learn how to better scare people. I wonder if that place is Casper’s Scare School…?

Luken Communications and RTV (aka Retro Television Network) has big plans for the upcoming year. The company aims to add a ton of content to a new network aimed at classic TV and animation fans. Included in the mix are: Richie Rich, Casper, The Lone Ranger, Mr. Magoo, Secret of Isis, Zorro, Shazam, Lassie, Dick Tracy, and Fraidy Cat. The new network appears to be a mix of the original Nick-at-Nite and Boomerang, boosting the spirit of people who love vintage shows and toons. Sounds good to us!

Casper’s Scare School

Casper's Scare School

When The King of the Underworld enrolls you into Scare School, that sounds scary enough! I mean… school!! 🙂 But Casper is happy there, even making friends with Ra and Mantha. Classic Media is now hoping to bring the CG series, produced by Moonscoop and DQ Entertainment, to more audiences around the globe, to be scared together! Networks that have already signed include: MTV3 in Finland, ABC Australia, TF1 in France and Cartoon Network Europe, and True Visions in Thailand.
