The BBC Children’s Division gets a new CEO

So many changes are a foot, and there will be more in the months ahead.

The BBC has appointed Alice Webb, currently chief operating officer of the UK pubcaster’s northern England operations, as the new director of its children’s division.

Webb will replace Joe Godwin at the end of February, taking over responsibility for the corporation’s two children’s channels, CBeebies and CBBC.

Kay Benbow, controller the BBC preschool channel CBeebies, has been in temporary charge of the department while it searched for a permanent replacement for Godwin, who left the role to become head of the BBC Academy.

CBBC Acquires The Rubbish World of David Spud

CBBC has recently acquired Ed Foster’s new 26 x 11 minute animated series titled The Rubbish World of Dave Spud, a show that the artist/creator describes as “No matter how horrible things get for Dave, there’s always room for them to get worse!”

The Rubbish World of Dave Spud is produced by UK studio The Illuminated Film Company (The Little Princess, Christmas Carol: The Movie, T.R.A.N.S.I.T.), and focuses on the titular 11 year old boy, who is not gifted in any special way but has the knack to attract the bizarre and unwittingly unleash the surreal.

Shaun the Sheep Returns to CBBC

The third season of Shaun the Sheep will consist of 20 x 7 minute episodes that continue to focus on Shaun and his farm buddies as they cause all sorts of mayhem and spread hilarity using visual gags and slapstick humor.
