Darth Vader Invades Osaka

darth_vader-1920x1200

A few days ago, a video of Darth Vader invading Japan during Winter time (probably mistaking it for Hoth) has surfaced, with the video serving as a means of promotion for Tokyo Disneyland’s Star Tours attraction.

A new video has been released, this time around the Sith Lord’s hunt for rebel spies has lead him through various Japanese tourist spots, particularly the famous Osaka Castle. Of course, Vader has a couple of Storm Troopers accompanying him, both of which are probably meant to give blasters something to hit before Vader can bust out his lightsaber.

Star Wars fans who are paranoid about Disney “cutesy-fying” their beloved sci-fi franchise may want to start dialing their paranoia a little bit higher, as the house of mouse has just released a new promo video for the May opening of an upgraded Tokyo Disneyland Star Tours attraction, which portrays the Sith Lord in a less fearsome manner.

ToonBarn Interview: Michael Price for LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out

Darth Maul's 8-Blade Lightsaber from LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out

Last week, on ToonBarn, I told you about LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out, a new 30-minute TV Special on Cartoon Network, airing this Wednesday, September 26, at 8 PM ET, and we showed you a preview, courtesy of StarWars.com.

This week, you have a special treat. I was given an opportunity, and approval from Lucasfilm, to interview Michael Price, the Writer and Executive Producer for LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out. You may have seen some of Michael Price’s previous work as well. He wrote the last LEGO Star Wars Special from last year, The Padawan Menace, and he has been a writer for The Simpsons for more than 10 years now. LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace debuted on July 7, 2011, and was released on DVD/Blu-Ray on September 16, 2011. The Simpsons (24th season!!) premiere episode, “Moonshine River”, airs this Sunday, September 30 at 8 PM ET on FOX.

To prepare you for what you’re in for when you see LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out, this is NOT a sequel to The Padawan Menace, but a new story set in the Star Wars Original Trilogy time period after the first Death Star is destroyed. This is also considered a Non-Canon special, which means that anything that occurs in this special does not become part of the SWEU (Star Wars Expanded Universe) Canon. Basically, don’t take anything seriously, because anything can happen, anytime, anywhere, anyhow. Anyway…let’s talk to Michael Price, and ask him about it.

Darth Maul returns in Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Darth Maul returns in Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Cartoon Network has let it be known: Darth Maul is on his way back. The Sith Lord from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace began as the apprentice to Darth Sidious. But his demonic red face, horned head, and double-bladed lightsaber have kept the character incredibly powerful: even after his apparent death in the first film, at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. But what if he wasn’t dead? What if Darth Maul somehow survived? This is the premise being explored later this season on Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars – and frankly, we can’t wait to find out what happens!

For longtime fans who want to see the first episode of Star Wars in a new perspective, or for new ones who want to see it in the best possible way, or even people who just want to know what newfangled things George Lucas is going to incorporate in the movies now, you can wait for February 10th, 2012 as Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace returns to the big screen in a new 3D edition.

“But he was cut in half by Obiwan! I saw it with my own eyes and it was canon!” is probably the first set of thoughts that will come to your mind upon hearing the news, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ supervising director, Dave Filoni has confirmed that the Sith apprentice who made double-edged lightsabers cool is going to show up on The Clone Wars this coming spring, in the follow up arc to the previous season’s Savage Opress storyline.

LucasFilm teases Star Wars Lego universe TV special

LucasFilm teases Star Wars Lego universe TV special

The Star Wars Universe has been the recipient of some awesome variation over the years, from two trilogies spanning two eras, an animated television series, countless video games, and even a holiday special (honest!). One of the most unique variants is the Star Wars Lego franchise that has spanned several video games. Now, rumor has it that LucasFilm is prepping a CG animated TV special based on the Star Wars Lego world, set during Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars era. With the timing set, we can be sure to see the “building” of key characters like Yoda, Obi-Wan, and pre-Darth Vader Anakin Skywalker, amongst others. Not much more information is known at this time, but we’ll see what we can … piece together for you.

Star Wars Weekends Strike Back on Disney

Star Wars Weekends Strikes Back on Disney

Disney World always sounds like a pretty awesome place to visit, whether you’re a big kid or a little kid. But how much cooler can the place get when it’s invaded by the Star Wars Universe? When Mickey Mouse becomes Jedi Mickey, Donald Duck becomes Darth Fowl, and Yoda helps clip all the hedges with a lightsaber. Fans not only get to see all of the usual Disney attractions, but a whole mix of Star Wars environments, even getting behind the scenes looks at the films and Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Stormtroopers, Star Tours, Hyperspace Hoopla… Star Wars Weekends are one of the greatest team ups in our world of animation.
