Just about one year ago, The Transformers returned to TV via the joint venture of Discovery and Hasbro known as The Hub. It’s there that the animated series made famous in the 1980s was reborn for today’s audience, complete with a new look that merged the classic style of the original toon with the updated flair of the Michael Bay movies. Transformers Prime was introduced by a five part miniseries called Darkness Rising, foretelling the resurgence of the villainous Decepticon leader, Megatron. Now, Shout! Factory has beautifully stitched together the storyline into a single movie presentation, and is bringing it all home on DVD December 6th. Darkness Rising, just in time for the holidays!
So, it’s Thanksgiving, a time for friends and family and happiness and food and of course giving thanks. But, we’re also gearing up for Darnkess Rising, a time of evil and Decepticons and fighting and …well, there’s probably some food too. Energon flavored. On December 6th, Shout! Factory will bring the Hub’s Transformers Prime home to DVD in Transformers Prime: Darkness Rising. The collection follows the 5-part original miniseries, edited together into a single movie – plus a whole world of bonus content.
This December, there will be more to think about than the typical holiday party planning. You’ll have to spend at least part of your day worrying about the Darkness Rising in the form of a really ticked off morphing robot named Megatron. On December 6th, Shout! Factory will bring Transformers Prime: Darkness Rising home to DVD. The package includes the original 5 part miniseries that introduced the world to Transformers Prime, seamlessly edited together for the first time as a movie presentation. Not enough? How about a world of extra bonus content, like animatics and concept designs? Need more? Read on for the full press release
Warning, Spoilers Ahead: When Season One of Transformers Prime ended, you get the feeling that the four part season finale did not really tie all loose ends, and was merely a set up for a future story arc. Supervising producer Duane Capizzi announced in an NYCC panel that they’re planning to follow through with a story of an amnesiac Optimus riding with the Decepticons.
