Dreamworks disappointed by Puss N’ Boots Opening Week

Dreamworks Investors Disappointed by Puss N’ Boots Opening Week

The news may be confusing at first, but in spite of Dreamworks Animation’s Puss in Boots topping the box office, its meager box office earnings are resulting in a lot of head scratching amongst Dreamworks Animation’s investors. Shares in Dreamworks has fallen by 8 percent last Monday, after news of Puss in Boots disappointing $34 million opening week. It was good enough to make it No. 1 at the box office, but it falls below the amount needed in order for the film to make a profit, which made it perform well below the investors’ expectations.

Puss in Boots in Theaters in October in Days

Puss in Boots in Theaters in October in Days

This Friday, theater goers and cat lovers alike will rejoice as DreamWorks Animation releases Puss in Boots. Not-so-technically speaking, this is the fifth cinematic adventure in the Shrek franchise, though the mighty green ogre is likely not in the film at all – or at least not in a starring role; it’s a big fantasy world, so there might be swamp or two. However, the sidekick who found his way to Team Green in Shrek 2 is now standing on his own feet in a luxurious pair of boots. Shown in CG and the now required 3D, Puss in Boots follows the early days of the swashbuckler’s life as he steers an adventure years before we met up with him in the Shrek franchise. Take a look at the teaser trailer, and get yourself ready, because Puss in Boots is in theaters starting this Friday, October 28th!

Puss in Boots: you know his name; Learn the legend October 28th

The legends of the Master Cat took hold over 300 years ago from a French fairy tale, by Charles Perrault. Fast forward several centuries, and the character claws his way higher in popularity, thanks to his appearance and prominence in the CG Shrek films. Who? The Booted Cat, Puss in Boots! Originally introduced in Shrek 2, the character has forever been associated with Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona as the fairy tale super team. Now, however, Puss is ready to step out on his own, as DreamWorks Animation readies a film just for him, appropriately titled Puss in Boots. The story is a prequel, before Puss met up with Shrek, following the hunt for Jack and Jill’s legendary power.

Forbes recently compiled a top 10 list of Hollywood’s Animation A-List; the voice actor’s who bring in the most attention, and most money, for their animated features. With the pheneomenal and enduring success of the Shrek franchise, it’s not difficult to see why Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy are up there as Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey in the DreamWorks Animation pics, pulling in about $10 million a piece – potentially more in the upcoming Shrek Forever After.
