Nickelodeon brings Rango to theaters

Nickelodeon brings Rango to theaters

In three weeks time, we’ll be Rango-ing about the ToonBarn offices, preparing ourselves for the Nickelodeon and Paramount film set to hit theaters on March 4th. Starring Johnny Depp, Rango tells the story of a former-pet chameleon who hits the old west styled town of Dirt to become the sheriff. Unfortunately, the town has a long history of bad things happening to the lawmen. Industrial Light & Magic is heavily involved in the film, which marks the first time in over 35 years the famous studio (known for work on the Star Wars flicks) has been involved with an animated movie. Perhaps Rango has the Force!

Nightsisters brings Savage Opress to Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Nightsisters brings Savage Opress to Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Just waiting to dig into some Clone Wars action scenes? Already a buzz with the Force thanks to the recent Star Wars Blu-ray announcements? Well Cartoon Network has some big stuff planned for you, starting with the newest Nightsisters storyline for season 3 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The three-episode arc introduces Savage Opress, whom George Lucas himself dubbed “Darth Maul’s brother.” With Clancy Brown behind the voice (just as he was for Justice League Unlimited’s Lex Luthor – and SpongeBob’s Mr. Krabs) it seems like this could be the teetering point of giving the Sith full control over the Jedi. Or, perhaps, Savage will stir for the good guys? Mr. Brown himself answers “you don’t really have a choice on who you are when the Nightsisters and Asajj and Count Dooku are involved.” Check out a sneak peek clip

Adult Swim scores big with Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III

Was the force with you? Cartoon Network recently rolled out a several-part Robot Chicken special entitled Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III, and fan reaction could not have been better! Filling out an hour of the Adult Swim program block, the episode focused on Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Gary the Stormtrooper each revealing secret side stories that filled the Star Wars mythos. The Emmy Award winning Robot Chicken stop-motion animated series was heavily praised for Episode I and Episode II over the past few years, and fans were not disappointed with the completion of the trilogy, as ratings were far from the Dark Side.

Savage Opress and the Secret of Darth Maul revealed in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Savage Opress and the Secret of Darth Maul revealed in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Star Wars has a very long history. I mean, beyond just the 30+ years the epic has made theatrical appearances, we’re talking about the story that takes place “a long time ago.” The prequels helped fill in the saga, telling parts 1-3 of the overall story arc. Cartoon Network’s CG series The Clone Wars has further deepened that universe, molding the evolution of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. However, one key (and incredibly popular) character shown early in the prequel films has been disappointingly absent from the later movies as well as the toon – what did ever happen with Darth Maul? Looks like Lucasfilm might finally be willing to share that story. Check out a clip of the story in action:
