Fresh TV, Teletoon and FremantleMedia rock out with Grojband

Fresh TV, Teletoon and FremantleMedia rock out with Grojband

No, Google, I did not mean “GarageBand.” Well, actually, I sorta did. But, it was spelled correctly when we titled this post “Grojband” which is the name of a new up-and-coming animated series. The folks behind Stoked and the Total Drama franchise (from Total Drama Island to Total Drama World Tour) have put together what they hope is the next big thing in toonland. Produced by Fresh TV, Teletoon Canada, and FremantleMedia Enterprises, Grojband will follow the story of Corey and his pals as they struggle to transform their garage band (see!) into a world famous rock group. They have the ambition, they have the talent (maybe), but they’re missing the lyrics — until Corey borrows them from his sister Trina’s diary!

The Ultimate Weapon is M.A.S.K. The Complete Original Series

The Ultimate Weapon is M.A.S.K. The Complete Original Series

That’s right, it’s a flying car. As far as I’m concerned, this shouldn’t be an animation at this point – it’s 2011, where’s my real-life flying car! At least I know the folks behind M.A.S.K. understood where I’m coming from! Thankfully, the folks at Hasbro and Shout! Factory do, as well, as they’ve teamed together to release M.A.S.K. The Complete Original Series on DVD. Not only is the series chock full of really cool adventures and some great animation, there’s a high number of scenes with flying cars. Don’t believe me? Check out the screen gallery right here, and see for yourself!

Factory is working together with Fremantlemedia Enterprises to bring the 1980s series home to DVD in a box set collection they’re appropriately calling M.A.S.K. The Complete Original Series. All 65 episodes are collected across 12 DVDs in a collection that hits North American stores for the first time, ever. And, thankfully, they’re not disguised in anyway – no illusions here! – just head on over to the store, online or otherwise, and pick one up!

FremantleMedia goes hypervynorama on Strange Hill High

FremantleMedia goes hypervynorama on Strange Hill High

The CBBC is working with FremantleMedia Enterprises (that’s FME + CBBC for the initial fans!) on a new comedy series called Strange Hill High. And yes, it’s strange! The show is actually produced in several different kinds of media, a hybrid technique that combines stop-motion animation and puppets with CG. The result is internally dubbed “hypervynorama” which sounds pretty awesome to us. The toon itself is set in an inner-city school named Strange Hill High, appropriately-enough. Three students take it upon themselves to investigate the endless secrets, mysteries, and other worldly events that happen at the school, for a little “Scooby-Doo” vibe.

M.A.S.K. the Animated series comes to DVD

M.A.S.K. the Animated series comes to DVD

If you wanted a cool toon with M.A.S.K., you got one. If you wanted a power ballad to open it up, you got one. The Mobile Armored Strike Kommand was an elite task force that ran through 1980s animated television with the likes of G.I. Joe and the Transformers. Better known as M.A.S.K., the group featured a number of specialized warriors led by Matt Trakker, who each possessed a vehicle that could transform into battle mode. This was especially helpful when they went up against their nemesis V.E.N.O.M., also known as the Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem. Best of all, the soldiers each donned specially charged masks that offered super powers to the wearer. Now, Shout! Factory and FremantleMedia Enterprises are bringing the classic M.A.S.K. series home to DVD and downloadable formats.

FremantleMedia Enterprises teases a re-imagined Danger Mouse

FremantleMedia Enterprises teases a re-imagined Danger Mouse

Nearly 30 years ago, in 1981, Cosgrove Hall Films and Thames Television teamed to produce an animated version of James Bond, mixed with Danger Man, mixed with … well, a cartoon mouse. The result was the British super hero spy Danger Mouse, whose animated adventures ran for 89 episodes over nearly a dozen years in the United Kingdom, as well as becoming one of the first cartoons to hit Nickelodeon in the United States. As so much time has passed, the property’s current owner, FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME), has decided the world once again needs the heroic protection of DM and his allies Ernest Penfold, Colonel K, Agent 57, and Professor Heinrich Von Squawkencluck. Certainly, this also means bringing back the horror of villainy, such as Baron Silas Greenback, Nero, Stiletto Mafiosa, Leatherhead, Count Duckula, and Grovel. No word yet on if the updated vision will be in CG or not, but until we know for sure, enjoy the original intro
