Greatest TV Cartoon Theme Songs #14: George of the Jungle

George of the Jungle is what we like to call a “guilty pleasure” in the realm of cartoon theme songs. The drum beat is purely hypnotic. “Boom-boom, boom-boom-ba-doom.” In the opening theme, George is shown swinging on vines, repeatedly running into trees, face-first, as he is warned by the singers of the theme song to “watch out for that tree!” George lives in a tree house and sometimes forget that he is up in the trees, and falls to the ground. If it wasn’t for the site gags in this cartoon, it would not be nearly as enjoyable.

Get ready for a new Underdog, Mr. Magoo, Casper, Rocky and Bullwinkle

Many toons have come and gone over the years, but few have remained “classic” in the true sense of the term. August Media Holdings and the properly named Classic Media group are hoping to dust off some true classics, breathing all new life into famous animated icons. Included in the mix are George of the Jungle, Underdog, Mr. Magoo, The Lone Ranger, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Richie Rich, and Little Lulu. Red Kite will handle many of the updates, which are essentially reinventions, in addition to testing the market for live-action hybrid movie possibilities, in the style of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Are you a fan of the originals, and do you want to see any changes to the toons? Sound off!!

Constantin Films hopes to out-Disney the House of Mouse with Tarzan

A human child raised in the jungle by great apes, rejecting civilization for the call of the wild. SpongeBob? No. Batman? No. …Stewie? No! We’re talking about Tarzan here. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan has seen many different animated forms and spinoffs, from “George of the Jungle” to Disney’s animated Tarzan film from ten years ago. Now, Constantin Films is developing a new CG animated adaption of Tarzan, in full movie-standard 3D, with Ambient Entertainment handling the animation. Constantin acquired the rights to the Tarzan books from the estate of author Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan. Disney’s take on the character scored nearly $450 million dollars worldwide, and Constantin would love a similar result.
