Despicable Me Attractions Coming This Spring

Riding high on the momentum built up by Despicable Me (which in turn is riding on the momentum built by the massively popular Minions), Universal Studios Hollywood is preparing a brand new 3D Ultra-HD adventure ride called Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, with target launch date stated to be this spring.

The Minions, who will be returning to the big screens via a spin-off movie, will also be featured in a new interactive play zone called Super Silly Fun Land.

Despicable Me 2 Blu Ray and DVD Review

Despicable-Me-2-Blu-Ray-Rev

I doubt that there are many people who missed out on Despicable Me 2’s Blu Ray and DVD Release last December 10, owing to the fact that it has recently broken Blu-Ray and Digital Sales records with an $80M home video debut (source: Deadline.com), but in case you’re one of those few people on the fence on whether the return of Gru, his cute adopted daughters and his even cuter yellow minions are worth owning on home video, read on.

Minions Take Over Manhattan on Monday

Minions Take Over Manhattan on Monday

Gru’s cute little yellow minions are arguably the best parts of the Despicable Me franchise, and what better to celebrate the debut of Despicable Me 2 on Digital HD (November 26) and Blu-Ray, than by having the Minions take over the 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Well, it’s not exactly take over so much as they’re just going to be part of the celebrations doing what they do best: making people happy! Before the big day, they’ll also loiter around the city of Manhattan, sightseeing, shopping, and sampling goodies. If you find one of them, you may even get a photo op.

Below is a list of planned stops for Minion Monday in Manhattan:

It seems like Universal/Illumination doesn’t need to wait for the Minions spinoff movie before they start raking in the moolah, as the long 4th of July weekend proved to be a profitable time for Gru and the rest of his crew from Despicable Me 2, which went to the top of the box office and brought in a hefty $82.5 million locally and accrued a total of $142.1 million globally over the holiday period. This also gives the film the biggest 5-day opening for an animated feature and the top 3 day animated opening for July.

Fans of Gru and his cute, yellow-skinned minions should rejoice, as Universal Pictures has just released a brand-spanking new trailer for Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2, which is scheduled to arrive on the big screens on July 3 of this year. Directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin, the sequel features Steve Carell reprising his role as Gru, alongside a whole other host of fabulous, famous voices such as Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Al Pacino, Steve Coogan and Ken Jeong.

Sandra Bullock Will Be the Villain in the Despicable Me Spin-Off

Sandra Bullock Will Be the Villain in the Despicable Me Spin-Off

Universal’s upcoming Despicable Me spin off, Minions, has just added an A-lister to its voice cast, as Sandra Bullock has been confirmed to be voice actress for the movie’s main villain.

In Minions, Bullock’s character will be a villain named Scarlet Overkill, who is hellbent on world domination, which isn’t that noteworthy considering Despicable Me’s protagonist is ALSO hellbent on world domination.

Of course, it’s the everlovin’ yellow minions, so you can’t expect them to sing the right lyrics. All you’re going to hear, aside from the accompanying party horn, is gibberish and the types of fruits that minions love to eat. But hey, it’s the minions! Even without words, the guys are fun to watch.

Despicable Me 2 Locked and Loaded

Despicable Me 2 Locked and Loaded

It’s one of the most adorable CG animated films of 2010, and it didn’t came from Pixar – Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me is now ready to give you another dose of fun, family-friendly experience as Gru, together with Margo, Edith, Agnes and a truckload of cute yellow minions return in Despicable Me 2, scheduled for release in theaters on July 3, 2013.

Despicable Me’s Minions and the Despicable Banana

Despicable Me's Minions and the Despicable Banana

Of all the animated films to hit theaters in the past few years, there are a rare few where the audience is as intrigued by the main characters as they are with the secondary characters. Lion King’s Timon and Pumba are good examples, as are the teams of penguins and monkeys from the Madagascar franchise. Each of those films had so much success with the secondary group that those sub-stars went on to receive their own movies and animated series on TV. Such, it seems could be the fate with Despicable Me – a story that focused on Gru’s maturity from super villain to adoptive father, but never lost sight of those adorable (and evil) Minions. Maybe there’s a toon in there someday, but in the meantime, there’s already a few solo adventures, including the “Banana” mini movie on the Despicable Me Blu-ray and DVD – not to mention “Home Makeover” and “Orientation Day”. Take a look!

Despicable Me boosts Blu-ray and DVD sales via Orientation Day

Despicable Me boosts Blu-ray and DVD sales via Orientation Day

With the holiday season wrapping up (or, I guess, after we’ve fully unwrapped the holiday season) studios are looking back to see how well they did for the year. Universal Pictures, for example, would love to know if their latest CG and 3D adventure, Despicable Me, sold well as it moved to DVD and Blu-ray. And, according to the results, they were RIDICULOUSLY happy! On the first day the video was available in stores, Gru, Minions and company raked in $25 Million dollars ($25 Million dollars!!!!) in sales. After dominating the box office, it was assumed the home version would sell well, but even this high figure caught everyone off guard! Do you own it yet?
