DreamWorks and Hasbro Mulling Over Merger

According to a recent report by Deadline.com, there are “deeply engaged” talks underway between animation powerhouse DreamWorks Animation and toy and media outfit Hasbro over a possible merger. The report states that the merged company could be called DreamWorks-Hasbro, with both sides agreeing to keep Jeffrey Katzenberg as chairman of the new merged company.

Hasbro Announces Plans for My Little Pony Film

According to a recent Variety report, Hasbro is currently on track to deliver yet another nostalgic and popular property to the big screen, this time it’s the My Little Pony franchise. The project is scheduled for a 2017 release, says the report.

The script will be penned by Ice Age 4: Continental Drift’s Joe Ballarini, and distribution will be handled by Hasbro’s new label, Allspark Pictures. No details have been released regarding the plot, but with the release date a full 3 years away, it’s hardly surprising.

Disney Consumer Products Launches Star Wars Rebels Product Line

Disney Consumer Products has just unveiled a new line of merchandise designed to celebrate the release of the new CG animated action series, Star Wars Rebels, on October 3rd on the Disney Channel, followed by regular airings on Disney XD on October 13th. The series will introduce new adventures from the beloved franchise and a whole bunch of new memorable characters. The merchandising line will consist of figures, spacehips and lightsabers, apparel and accessories, home décor, books, and many more best-in-class licensees such as Hasbro, Lego, Mad Engine, Rubies and Jay Franco.

“Star Wars Rebels extends the franchise’s legendary storytelling while refreshing nostalgic play patterns with a new audience,” said Josh Silverman, executive vice president of global licensing, Disney Consumer Products. “With updated classics like multi-functional lightsabers and buildable spacecraft, kids will be able to recreate the epic galactic space fantasy that has been shared by multiple generations.”

The Hub Network Renews My Little Pony for 5th Season

Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the gang will be returning to celebrate the friendship of magic via the hit animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which The Hub Network has recently renewed for its fifth season. The Hasbro-produced fifth season is expected to air on the Hub Network in 2015. The season is said to consist of 26 episodes.
