New HOP Mini Movie

New HOP Mini Movie

The hit CG animated movie HOP is coming to Blu Ray and DVD this week, and as a way of reminding you of the humor and hijinks of the rebellious young rabit E.B. (voiced by Russell Brand), Universal Studios has released “Phil’s Dance Party”, a new mini movie starring fan-favorite chicks Phil and Carlos showing off their (well, Phil’s) infectious dance moves:

Fans flock to RIO while Hop extends the box office holiday

Once again, the box office tells the country what we’ve already known forever: toons rule. This weekend, it was the newcomer Rio to take the top spot. Fox animations tale of love between rare birds was far more than a match for the second place film, Scream 4, the latest sequel in the franchise. Maybe Scream should have added some CG animated characters to the grouping, as that appears to help get you a top spot here and there! Rio finished in first place with $40 million, and Hop continues to hang around the top spots with a strong third place finish of $11 million. Take a look at the rest of the box office breakdown

Hop back to box office lead for Universal

Easter Bunny Hop back to box office lead for Universal

Not a bad weekend for Russell Brand. Not only did the British comedian provide the voice for the number one film in the box office race, Hop’s Easter Bunny, he was also the star in the second place, live-action film, Arthur. From cartoon to actor in 10 seconds flat – and to the tune of $33 million for both! Since opening April 1st, Hop has generated nearly $70 million dollars for Universal. The live action and CG hybrid has done the Easter Bunny justice, still a full two weeks from his holiday! Take a look at the full box office ranking – maybe Russel Brand is in there a few more times

Universal HOPs to the top of the box office

Universal HOPs to the top of the box office

With an estimated $38 million dollars during this weekend’s box office blitz, it looks like Universal has a Golden Egg on it’s hands, with Hop! The new film, a hybrid mix of live action and CG, hatched the highest-grossing weekend of 2011 so far, narrowly topping Nickelodeon’s Rango. And all this, still three weeks prior to the actual Easter holiday, so it looks like HOP might have long legs! …er… paws? Boasting a modest budget of $65 million (meager compared to Rango’s $135 million budget) the film will likely start earning a profit in just it’s second or third week of release, which is pretty impressive. Take a look at the full box office report, and let us know how many of you were part of this weekend’s movie-going?

On April 1st, the two will team to unveil the latest live-action and CG hybrid film, Hop, telling the tale (or tail) of the Easter Bunny. Seems the rabbit we’ve all come to know is stepping down from the role, hoping (or hopping) that his son E.B. will fill the role. But E.B. would rather pursue his dream of becoming a drummer in Hollywood – that is, until the holiday his father made famous is threatened by Carlos, the evil Easter Chick! Check out the latest feature, Saving Easter, and let us know what you think!
