Edward Norton Talks About Turning Down Hulk Role in The Avengers

With all the controversy surrounding Edward Norton’s stint as Bruce Banner/The Hulk in Marvel’s pre-Avengers take on the green giant franchise – including ones that have painted both Norton and the studio in a bad light, it’s normal to expect that the actor might harbor some bitterness now that the franchise has really taken off. However, in a recent interview with NPR, Norton expressed his thoughts on the whole debacle:

Toonbarn’s 2013 Holiday Gift Guide!

Toonbarn's 2013 Holiday Gift Guide!

With Christmas only a few weeks away, we at Toonbarn have decided to compile a list of items that we believe would look great under the Christmas Tree this year. Personally, I’m just going to give my relatives download codes for a bunch of movies and call it a day, but it’s a lazy approach and won’t be appreciated by most people. Download codes may be economical and convenient…heck, it may even be the gift that people deserve! But it’s seriously not the one they need right now.

People these days would rather get things that can be wrapped in paper, stuffed under the Christmas tree, and shoved in their face so they can leave you the heck alone for the rest of the year…wait, sorry. I got a little bit carried away. I’m basically saying if you’re giving away something that is non-tangible as a gift, a smile would do. If you want to do something that not any random person with teeth can do, you need to follow our Holiday Gift Guide.

Of course, some of you are thinking this holiday gift guide is a month too early and should be posted mid-December, but what kind of pud releases a gift-giving guide around the time when most people have already bought gifts for their loved ones?! Not ME. I’m an entirely different kind of pud.

If you don’t want to spend a single cent on a really cool gift for a loved one, and don’t want to smile either, you should try your luck with Toonbarn’s Nintendo Wii U and 3DS Giveaway Contests. (It’s right there, on the right side of the page) Joining is free. If you win, you get yourself a free videogame console that can be given away as gifts and then borrowed later.

Now, on with the show:

Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United Comes Out on Blu-Ray this December

Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United Comes Out on Blu-Ray this December

If you’re looking for a new home video to add to your marathon schedule when December rolls around, Marvel’s got a new Blu-Ray that would make a great lead-in, especially if you’re planning to fill that schedule with comic book movies and specials: Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United, which is scheduled to come out on Blu-Ray this coming December 3, 2013

Marvel’s Iron Man & Hulk: Heroes United is a new action-packed CG animated adventure that brings together two of Marvel’s most popular heroes, first against each other, and then together against a threat that no hero can defeat on his own.

Toonbarn Character of the Week: Hulk

hulk-med

With the recent launch of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. on Disney XD, it’s only fitting that Toonbarn’s featured character of the week be jolly green giant, the Incredible Hulk. Oh, and since the new series managed to point out just how many gamma-powered behemoths we have right now, it’s worth pointing out that we’re talking about Bruce Banner’s alter ego, the original Green Hulk. What can we say, he’s the original and the most recognizable version – he’s huge, he’s strong, and he’s green, which is the color of a vegetable, the color of a tree, and the color of Jedi Outcast lightsaber number 3.

Hulk was originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in May 1962, appearing in the pages of The Incredible Hulk (the big dude got his own comic during the days when most superheroes were only introduced in anthologies). He is the alter ego of physicist Bruce Banner, who was exposed to a gamma bomb blast when he saved a young Rick Jones, who had wandered onto the testing range.

Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel Debuts Tonight on Disney Channel

Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel debuts tonight at 8 PM ET on Disney Channel

Phineas And Ferb: Mission Marvel is a special 1-hour episode which airs tonight (Friday, August 16), at 8 PM ET on Disney Channel. This is the first crossover between the Phineas and Ferb characters and the Marvel Superheroes. If you want to know why Captain America is missing, and Spiderman is on the team, it all has to do with Phineas and Ferb creators Dan Povenmire and Swampy Marsh playing favorites. They like Spiderman. Captain America… not so much. I think we all agree Spidey has more opportunity for hilarious one-liners than Cap.

According to Dan Povenmire, the challenge for this crossover, or any crossover for that matter, is pleasing fans of both camps. He has talked about it in interviews leading up to tonight’s debut on Disney Channel. Doing something Marvel fans may think is cheesy or violates the characters would make fans upset. It had to work for both sides. We had a chance to see the episode on the Disney Channel iPad app, and we think it works perfectly.

This coming August 11, at exactly 11:00 AM ET/PT, Hulk and his crew of Gamma-powered behemoths will be making their way to Disney XD via a special two-part episode of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., immediately followed by a brand new episode of Avengers Assemble (12:00 PM ET/PT), making for one action-packed and smashing Marvel Universe block.

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. features Hulk, She-Hulk, A-Bomb, Red Hulk, and Skaar working together to tackle threats that are too big for a single hero to handle alone, while also trying to deal with their jolly green giant-sized family problems.

New Trailer for Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel

Phineas-and-Ferb-Mission-Ma

Phineas and Ferb doesn’t really seem like the kind of show that Marvel’s superheroes would visit as part of an official crossover, but with Disney being owners of Marvel, and with Marvel Superhero Squad showing that the franchise has legs as a kid-oriented comedy show, you sort of understand how it could work. Case in point: the big Mission Marvel crossover special, which premieres this summer.

Joss Whedon Talks About Possible Hulk Movie

Joss Whedon Talks About Possible Hulk Movie

The Hulk is easily one of the most popular characters in the recent Avengers movie, so it wasn’t surprising that many fans kept holding on to rumors of a standalone film in the near future. Sadly, both Mark Ruffalo and Joss Whedon has denied the rumors, with Ruffalo being open to the possibility while admitting that he hasn’t been contacted yet. He is in contract to play all movie versions of the Hulk, at least until said contract expires, so he’s probably one of the first few people to know.

Whedon, for his part, recently talked to Deadline.com and clarified why he finds the character problematic:

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. to Premiere on August

Marvel is getting ready to infuse their hit Disney XD programming block with good dose of Gamma radiation with the premiere of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H on August 11, Sunday, starting at 11:00 AM ET/PT.

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H is a novel new approach at the big green behemoth. It follows Hulk, who has long fought alone to protect a world that only sees him as a destructive monster, and friend Rick Jones as they try to film the world-saving exploits of the Gamma-irradiated titan in order to show the world his true worth. Hulk won’t have to do it alone, though, as he will be joined by his cousin She-Hulk, A-Bomb, Red Hulk, and Skaar. Together they make up one of the strongest teams in the Marvel univese, if only in terms of raw physical strength.
