Chris Evans, from Human Torch to Captain America

Chris Evans, from Human Torch to Captain America

Though he’s already appeared as Johnny Storm twice already in the Fantastic Four movie franchise, word is that Chris Evans will be dropping the fire from the Human Torch, and donning the Stars and Stripes as Captain America in the upcoming film. Neither Marvel nor Disney has yet to officially confirm the report, but our sources say the lead is solid, pinning Evans as Steve Rogers, the super powered patriot. The story is being penned as two trilogies; three Captain America movies, and then reprising the role in three Avengers movies, all in addition to making appearances in other upcoming Marvel flicks, like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk, and so on. With the first film set to hit theaters next summer, July 22, 2011, there’s no time to waste! Flame on! …er…

Alice in Wonderland becomes Alice in TVLand

With over 200 million in less than 3 weeks, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland has been a phenomenal success – and hopes for the upcoming weekend (it’s 3rd) should make the totals for the 3D Disney film even more impressive. Spreading the joy of the movie is ABC Family, who recently (and already!) picked up the TV rights to premiere the movie once it’s ready. The debut is a ways off, not airing on the Disney-owned network until 2012, but fans are already excited to revisit the world starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, and Crispin Glover. Have you seen it yet?

This was a Jabberwock of a debut weekend for Alice in Wonderland, according to the NY Daily News. Movie-goers went mad as a hatter, grabbing tickets at the box office to the tune of $116 million for the new Disney film. The live action and CG animation hybrid film is now credited as having the highest grossing weekend for a non-sequel; though there is at least a correlation to Alice’s first trip to Wonderland. The film aired in most regions across 3D screens, as Johnny Depp wowed audience in the latest Tim Burton picture. Who went to see it this weekend? And who will be back to see it (again) next weekend?

Tim Burton’s dream-like take on the already-dream-like Alice in Wonderland hits theaters today, starring Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, and Michael Sheen, amongst others. The world of the new “Alice” has drifted a long way from the Looking Glass, and the original 1951 animated Disney classic. Combining live action with animation, the film brings Alice, now 19 years old, back to Wonderland 12 years later where she must confront the Jabberwock, the Red Queen, the Mad Hatter, and more. Disney will bring modern take to both 3D and IMAX screens as well as regular theaters globally, starting today, March 5th. Anyone planning on going opening night?
