Comedy Central Greenlights Bento Box’s Legends

According to a recent report from Deadline.com, Comedy Central has just greenlighted Bento Box Entertainment’s animated comedy series Legends, which marks the first original series pick-up since Mike Clements was tapped to head the new Creative Development and Original Programming Division last year.

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

Ben 10 and Generator Rex: Heroes United coming to Cartoon Network

A few months back, ToonBarn ran a story about the potential crossover of the Ben 10 universe with the newly created Generator Rex universe. Seeing as how both are iconic heroes on Cartoon Network, and both have ties to Man of Action Studios, it made perfect sense — at least for the April Fools joke that we ran it as, Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien: . A good chunk of our readers were fooled by the fake story, but a good number of others couldn’t wait for such a thing to actually happen. …and now, it appears it will. At Comic Con 2011, Cartoon Network announced a crossover special event that sounds exactly like the one we faked, but this time it’s for real! Ben 10 and Generator Rex will team up in a special one-shot called Ben 10 / Generator Rex: Heroes United. Confusing Ben in Humungousaur form as an E.V.O., Generator Rex decides to take the fight to Ben – only to discover they’re on the same side. Further details on the special are scarce right now, but we’ll get you the latest right here soon – stay TOONed!!

Warner Premiere brings The Dark Knight Returns to DVD

Warner Premiere brings The Dark Knight Returns to DVD

Heralded as the best graphic novel of all time, it appears as the The Dark Knight Returns is finally getting the Warner Premiere treatment. Rumors are running rampant across the intrawebs that Warner Bros. Animation will officially be converting the iconic DC Comics comic book to animation, adding to their long line of comic-to-DVD projects; All Star Superman, Superman: Doomsday, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Justice League: The New Frontier, etc. The adaptation of Frank Miller’s masterpiece (who, himself, worked with Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley) has been teased before (in episodes of Batman: The Animated Series, The Batman, and most recently in Batman: The Brave and the Bold) but never before given it’s own home. If this holds true, WB will soon give us the DVD and Blu-ray we’ve been waiting for since their work began!

Ben 10 and Rex merge for Generator Rex Ultimate Alien

Ben 10 and Rex merge for Generator Rex Ultimate Alien

Cartoon Network has some big ideas! So, let’s say you have two of the most popular action franchises of all time, what do you do? On the one hand, there’s Ben 10. He’s had an incredible string of success in the original series, the sequel series Ben 10: Alien Force, and now the third Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. On the other hand, there’s a new series from the same Man of Action creation team, Generator Rex, that has cultivated a whole new, large audience. Apparently, the CN thinks they’re both so successful, they’re going to create a new spin-off with the two concepts merged! Thus, we have the new series Generator Rex: Ultimate Alien. Set to debut April 1st of next year (April 1, 2012) the series will follow Rex’s adventure with an Omnitrix of his own. Will the alien transformation abilities clash with Rex’s own nanotech? Will Ben be a good instructor, as he guides Rex on his new quests? Will Kevin clash with Agent Six? We’ll have to wait to find out!
