ToonBarn talks to Michael Price about LEGO Star Wars: Menace of the Sith

Michael Price, Writer and Executive Producer of LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles

ToonBarn is once again honored to have Michael Price as our guest for an interview about LEGO Star Wars: Menace of the Sith, the second of a three-part animated mini-series called The Yoda Chronicles on Cartoon Network. This second installment will be premiering at 8 PM ET on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, on Cartoon Network.

ToonBarn’s Marc Morrell talked to Michael Price, the writer and Executive Producer of LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles. Michael, as most of you know by now, has been a full-time staff writer for The Simpsons for many years. Since we have interviewed him 3 times prior to this, including our interview at Times Square in New York City, during the unveiling of the World’s Largest LEGO Model, a Star Wars X-Wing Fighter, we thought we would just get right into this next episode of The Yoda Chronicles.

ToonBarn Interview: Michael Price for LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out

Darth Maul's 8-Blade Lightsaber from LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out

Last week, on ToonBarn, I told you about LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out, a new 30-minute TV Special on Cartoon Network, airing this Wednesday, September 26, at 8 PM ET, and we showed you a preview, courtesy of StarWars.com.

This week, you have a special treat. I was given an opportunity, and approval from Lucasfilm, to interview Michael Price, the Writer and Executive Producer for LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out. You may have seen some of Michael Price’s previous work as well. He wrote the last LEGO Star Wars Special from last year, The Padawan Menace, and he has been a writer for The Simpsons for more than 10 years now. LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace debuted on July 7, 2011, and was released on DVD/Blu-Ray on September 16, 2011. The Simpsons (24th season!!) premiere episode, “Moonshine River”, airs this Sunday, September 30 at 8 PM ET on FOX.

To prepare you for what you’re in for when you see LEGO Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out, this is NOT a sequel to The Padawan Menace, but a new story set in the Star Wars Original Trilogy time period after the first Death Star is destroyed. This is also considered a Non-Canon special, which means that anything that occurs in this special does not become part of the SWEU (Star Wars Expanded Universe) Canon. Basically, don’t take anything seriously, because anything can happen, anytime, anywhere, anyhow. Anyway…let’s talk to Michael Price, and ask him about it.

Animated Star Wars Comedy from Robot Chicken Creators in the Works

According to a recent report by Shadowlocked, cult favorite co-creator of the Robot Chicken series and former Buffy cast member Seth Green has had two Star Wars comedic spin offs commissioned by Adult Swim and endorsed by George Lucas (!!!) himself. And no, we’re not talking about the Robot Chicken: Star Wars special – the upcoming spin off is a 40 minute long episode to be shown in its own right and is set on the same (fictional) reality where the canon Star Wars films happened.

“But he was cut in half by Obiwan! I saw it with my own eyes and it was canon!” is probably the first set of thoughts that will come to your mind upon hearing the news, but Star Wars: The Clone Wars‘ supervising director, Dave Filoni has confirmed that the Sith apprentice who made double-edged lightsabers cool is going to show up on The Clone Wars this coming spring, in the follow up arc to the previous season’s Savage Opress storyline.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars, McDonald's Happy Meal Strikes Back

Right now, folks over at Cartoon Network and LucasFilm are hard at work on the 4th season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It’s not Happy Time, it’s Work Time. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy ourselves as much as possible, and McDonald’s is ready to sign up with that idea! That’s why, right now at participating McDonald’s, you can walk right in, use the Force, and get yourself a Star Wars Happy Meal! Not only is there some delicious tasties inside each, but you’ll also get your Jedi training set for the next few weeks with a brand new toy based on Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The Padawan Menace brings LEGO Star Wars to Cartoon Network

The Padawan Menace brings LEGO Star Wars to Cartoon Network

When a routine Jedi Academy field trip is turned into some sort of cosmic adventure, we figure this has to be the makings of some awesome new Star Wars bit. Apparently, LEGO thought the same thing, as they’re currently working on a made-for-TV special movie based in the LEGO Star Wars universe called The Padawan Menace. Master Yoda leads a group of Jedi kids through the Senate chambers when the aging Jedi sense a disturbance in the Force. As he dashes to save the Republic, he quickly realizes he isn’t alone, and is instead giving a space tour on a more dangerous note! Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite droids C-3PO and R2-D2 are in charge of those left behind. It takes an all out effort to keep things under control – and even more so with the Sith reveal their plans! TOON in July 22nd, when it all goes down on Cartoon Network. In the meantime, check out the full details in the press release
