Marvel picks a new Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield thwips for Disney and Columbia

Spider-Man has found a new face to wear beneath the mask! Andrew Garfield has been cast as the new Peter Parker and Spidey in the next installment of the Marvel super franchise. Along with Disney and Columbia Pictures, Marvel welcomes in the twenty-six year old, who replaces the former title-holder, Tobey Maguire. It’s been 5 months since Tobey got the boot (the web?) with reportedly just 2 years until “A.G.” makes his debut in theaters, with the latest Spider-Man film to launch July 3rd, 2012 – in Spidey-Sense 3D, of course. Filming begins later this year, written by James Vanderbilt and directed by the appropriately named Marc Webb.

Marvel reveals the first look at Thor

Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, and also one of Marvel’s best selling comic book super heroes, is soon to also add “movie star” to his resume. The latest film from the Disney owned Marvel Studios is set to hit theaters on May 20th of 2011, almost exactly a year from today. In honor of the upcoming date, Paramount Pictures today revealed a first teaser glance at Chris Hemsworth as the Thunder God in full Thor style. Take a look at the teaser image and let us know what you think! Did they pull it off? Is this just a trick from the evil Loki? Will we get a better preview of the film and full cast during next week’s Iron Man 2 debut? Stay TOONed!

Tobey Maguire is Spider-Man no more, series to reboot

Tobey Maguire is Spider-Man no more, series to reboot

It looks as if Tobey Maguire’s web-slinging days are behind him. Tobey, along with director Sam Raimi, will no longer be part tof the Spider-Man movie franchise, as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced the upcoming films will instead focus on a younger Peter Parker, still in high school. The script, penned by James Vanderbilt, will feature an entirely new cast and film-making team, ready to hit the big screen in 2012. The reboot will start an entirely new Spidey tale, likely pitting the new WebHead in the upcoming Avengers film.

Marvel’s Thor (aww… try an ithe pack!)

Marvel has had a lot of success in the theaters lately with Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Hulk, to name a few.  But that’s all live action stuff – animation is where its at!  To meet our needs, Marvel intends to release a cartoon series for all of the live-action movies.  First up is Thor, whose movie hits on July 16, 2010, with a toon to follow on TV later that fall.  Check out the splash image below the break!

The Incredible Hulk hits DVD

The Incredible Hulk

In less than a week, you’ll be able to bring this happy lil fella home with you!  Marvel Studios and Universal Studios Home Entertainment Canada are releasing The Incredible Hulk on DVD on October 21st, and then the Blu-Ray Hi-Def version on October 24th.  They will include more than two hours of bonus extras, including an alternate opening sequence.  This could help get you pumped up for the animated “Hulk VS” series, set to debut just a few months later!

Less cartoon movies?!

Paramount Pictures

Sadly, we could soon be faced with getting less cartoon love in the theaters. Paramount Pictures is making plans for 2009 to reduce its total amount of films to around 20.  So what will this mean for fans like us?  Well, we’ll still get our share of Nickelodeon related films, as well as those DreamWorks animation and Marvel Studios puts out, which are through Paramount.  This includes Fanboy and Chum Chum, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Monsters vs. Aliens, to name a few.
