Gomera Wreaks Havoc on Youtube

Production outfit IDA, Inc., which recently came out with the full 3D CG war-action rabbit animation ‘Cat Shit One,’ has just unleashed a localized version of their monstrous new creation upon the denizens of Youtube, titled Kaiju Gomera.

Kaiju Gomera is a unique comedy mini series that has already seen localizations and broadcasted all over the world via Youtube and Youku. It focuses on a gigantic monster (a kaiju) whose massive destructive capabilities can only be matched by his intense desire to be cuddly and friendly. As expected, the difference in his genetic makeup and his character results in a massive conflict that brings any city he visits to its knees.

The Kaiju Gomera videos showcase a hybrid of live-action, 2D, and CG animation wrapped up in a witty storyline that will be appreciated by viewers, whether they are old fans of the kaiju genre of movies or little kids who weren’t even born yet when the last Godzilla movie premiered on the big screens.

Nickelodeon prepares Robot and Monster: Best Friends Forever

Nickelodeon prepares Robot and Monster: Best Friends Forever

We love Robots. We love Monsters. It only stands to reason that ToonBarn Studios would be a huge fan of a series called Robot & Monster – it’s like simple algebra. Thus, we were delighted to see that Nickelodeon is adding just such a toon to their roster! Set in a unique world where gangs of Howling Cyber Monkeys roam the streets, the world of Robot & Monster is, quite literally, filled with Robots and Monsters. Most don’t get along – that is, except for the titular characters. Robot is a self-proclaimed genius inventor, and Monster believes goo things happen to good people, believing loyally in everything Robot does. And with a best friend like that, what else could you ask for? …Except for, maybe, a pile of bacon.

Animasia and Neptuno attack with ABC Monsters

Animasia and Neptuno attack with ABC Monsters

First, there was Kung Fu Chicken. Through the genius of Animasia Studio and Neptuno Films, the pair brought us an amazing new animated series. Now, the duo is working together again, hoping to bring ABC Monsters to Europe and, later, North America. Twenty Six cuddly ABC Monsters (one for each letter) live within the walls of Capital Castle – but when they get on the loose, only Alice Brian and Cherry Berry can catch them. Educating, devouring and conquering cities… is there anything monsters can’t do?

Chaotic folds as trading card games deal 4Kids a bad hand

Chaotic folds as trading card games deal 4Kids a bad hand

Five or ten years ago, 4Kids was riding high. The Fox Box was a premiere showcase for toons like Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Viva Pinata, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Pokemon. More importantly, the company was dominating in the field of trading card games. At the height of TCGs, recess across the globe was owned by gauntlets of cards, with kids showing whose monster or dragon or beast or bot was superior. Today, 4Kids is a different story, with financial woes, a new program block called Toonzai, and a mighty blow to the TCG empire with the loss of TC Digital Games. 4Kids was majority owner of TCD which, along with TC Websites, was a major factor in the Chaotic line. With those pieces gone, the Chaotic brand is essentially all but dead – certainly bad news for animation and TCG fans. Check out the detailed press release

Looking at the Monster cast from Scary Larry

Looking at the Monster cast from Scary Larry

Werewolves, vampires, monsters, creatures, mummys, … what’s missing there, ghosts? Maybe the Abominable Snowman? Or is that covered under “monster”. It’s all so confusing, and maybe a little bit frightening, but one thing is for certain about Scary Larry – it’s awesome. The upcoming flash animated series (a co-production between Timoon Animation, Mercury Filmworks, 1492 Pictures, and Lagardere Entertainment) features a “rat pack” of iconic monster kids who travel and rock together in a band they named Frightsylvania. Individually, they are Larry the werewolf, Victoria the vampire, Frank the monster, Mummy the mummy, and Carl the sea creature – each just trying to live as normal an existence as a freaky monster can live!

With vampires being all the rage right now, it’s possible some of the “lesser monsters” will be feeling lonely. But, if Scary Larry has any say in the matter, he’ll have werewolves on top again in no time! The Flash animated star from Timoon Animation and Mercury Filmworks is working with 1492 Pictures and Lagardere Entertainment to turn the monster icon toon into an animated series. The Scary Larry team is made up of Larry the werewolf, Frank the monster, Mummy the mummy, Carl the sea creature, and Victoria the vampire, rocking out together in a band called Frightsylvania. Robot & Monster getting ready for Nickelodeon

Robot & Monster getting ready for Nickelodeon

As promised nearly 8 months ago, Nickelodeon is preparing itself for a new hit animated series called Robot & Monster: Best Friends Forever. Dave Pressler, a designer in the television and toy industry, announced recently on his blog that Robot & Monster is moving into production, with a first episode scheduled to hit airwaves in the fall of 2011. The CG animated series will follow a pair of buddies, Robot and Monster, naturally, who remain friends despite their vast differences. Kinda sweet, if you think about it :). We’ll certainly be on the look out for this one!
