DreamWorks sings Monkeys of Bollywood

Hear no evil, see no evil… animated no evil? DreamWorks Animation’s latest project to be announced isn’t Shrek 15 or a Megamind holiday special, its the companies first ever CG animated feature musical, Monkeys of Bollywood. Working with Stephen Schwartz, A.R. Rahman, Gurinder Chadha, and Paul Berges at the helm, Monkeys of Bollywood takes inspiration from the epic Indian story of The Ramayana. The project will be animated in a Bollywood-styled design, set in Mumbai, and told from the point of view from a pair of monkeys hoping to defeat an ancient demon. Will the demon take over the world? Spidey swings from page to stage in Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark – the on-again, off-again musical set to hit Broadway stages – is back. The upcoming show, with music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge, follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider. This bullied science geek, suddenly endowed with astonishing powers from the spider’s bite, soon learns that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character. Originally penned as a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger, the musical takes the Marvel Comics superhero to the stage, starring Reeve Carney as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.  Now fans can grab tickets in a special pre-sale offer through August 18th.  Check out the below poster for more details!

4Kids brings Penelope the blue koala to the world

Penelope is an adorable blue koala, just as eager to play and learn as she is to get into trouble. In an effort to spread Penelope’s animated series across the globe, 4Kids has recently made plans with the producer, Nippon Animation, signing the CG animated toon to a number of different locations. The show is based on the 48 book titles by Anne Gutman and Georg Hallensleben, published by Gallimard Jeunesse. In addition to Christmas and holiday specials, Penelope has also had her own musical which ran across Japan. Along with her family, friends, and her favorite pet toy Doudou, Penelope’s series is full of fun and adventure, and maybe soon to be headed to a TV or store near you!

It’s not that long ago that fans were celebrating Duncan’s win during the Total Drama Action finale. Now, Cake Entertainment, Fresh TV, and Cartoon Network are working together on the latest upcoming Total Drama animated series, Total Drama World Tour. The third season, formally known as Total Drama The Musical, brings the drama from the previous years, as the cast goes on a tour around the world and faces the toughest, most embarrassing, most disgusting challenges yet. Shrek has thus far had a phenomenal run; in addition to the musical, the CDs, winter holiday specials, figures, fall holiday specials, and other merchandise, most importantly, he’s had three ogre-sized successes in theaters – with a fourth in the works. But that’s not all there is to the franchise; the Puss in Boots spin-off film is set in motion, with a new release date; November 4th, 2011. (lookit all the links in here!). Zack Galifianakis currently in talks to join the cast of the DreamWorks Animation film alongside Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.
