In the long line of magically recreating stories for today’s audience, Disney is giving the “princess” treatment to another classic tale; Rapunzel. Helping to fill out the cast of the 3D, CG animated musical will be Donna Murphy, a Tony Award winner for her role in Passion and The King and I. Murphy will star as the voice of Mother Gothel, the witch who traps Rapunzel in the tall tower. The cast already includes Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, and will be directed by Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, the producers behind another Disney modern classic, Bolt.

The discs include a royal procession of exclusive bonus features, including games and specially- created featurettes, taking viewers on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the storied French Quarter of New Orleans and into the magic-steeped bayou for hours of can’t-miss family entertainment. This past weekend was a big one for toon fans, as the animated tale of The Princess and the Frog leaped to the top spot at the box office. Not only does this story introduce a new set of characters, and of course adds to the roster of Disney Princesses, it also marks a return to traditionally animated cartoon films, which have dwindled in number as CG technology continues to dominate. While the process was aided by computer techniques, the backbone of this latest Disney film is true, old-school, hand-drawn art. And, with first place and $25 million to kick off it’s first weekend in theaters, it looks like the efforts are truly appreciated! Have you seen it yet?

But the closer we get to November 25th, the closer we are to the debut for the “old school animated” The Princess and the Frog! Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on DVDSnow White will be returning as top Disney princess later this year, as Disney re-releases Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on DVD!  Disney has unveiled a number of new Snow White toys at this year’s Toy Fair that have confirmed the movie will be re-released.  The schedule so far has the movie hitting Blu-ray hi-def and DVD later this fall, along with a number of new toys and accessories from Disney.
