Official Japanese Trailer for Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice

An official Japanese trailer has just been released for the upcoming Sonic Boom game for the 3DS, titled Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice. It’s a 2.5D platformer, which seems to be the preferred genre for Sonic games, and judging by the trailer, there is a lot to like about the game barring preference over character design.

New Sonic Boom Characters Revealed

After 140 million games sold and a successful animated series, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is gearing up for its biggest year yet. In anticipation of his latest adventure, SEGA will be revealing characters for the brand-new Sonic Boom universe, which will include the first ever CG animated TV series debuting on Cartoon Network, a line of video games for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, as well as an extensive merchandising program. The list of the newest characters that will be introduced in both the video game and animated series include:

Wii U Version of Sonic Boom Game Shows Off Gameplay

GamerHub TV’s Youtube channel has recently posted a few minutes of gameplay from the Wii U version of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, which is the first ever we’ll get to see gameplay footage from a game based on the upcoming animated TV series.

The Wii U version of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is developed by Big Red Button and is scheduled for release this November alongside Sanzaru Games’ 3DS entry, Shattered Crystal. You can check out the gameplay footage (which came from E3) below:

Sonic Boom Introduces New Character, Sticks

People have already seen what Sonic and the gang will look like in the upcoming TV series Sonic Boom, but it turns out they’re not the only ones that are going to show up in CG 3D glory, because the series will also introduce a new character: Sticks.

The official description for Sticks is a jungle badger that is also Amy’s BFF, who has spent most of her life living alone in the wilderness. Sticks will be appearing in the Sonic Boom TV series, as well as the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS video games. You can expect her to appear in the merchandise as well.

Sonic Team Considers Early Sonic Boom Designs Traumatic

The reception for the new character designs for the upcoming videogame, TV show, and merchandise spin-off for Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Boom, was mixed. Some people found the designs workable, while some were indifferent, and an even bigger number felt that the redesign was awful and bordering on unnecessary. It turns out that the earlier designs were worse, as even Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka found them “traumatic.”

Go Behind the Scenes of Sega’s Sonic Boom Game and Show

A couple of weeks ago, Sega went ahead and revealed their latest Sonic-related project, Sonic Boom, which is a new animated TV series and accompanying game. Reception was a little bit mixed, but for the people who are positive about the project and those who are willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, Sega has just posted a new Behind the Scenes featurette that delves deep into the franchise’s beginnings before moving on to some key information about the new game from Big Red Button. Lastly, it also provides a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming TV series.

Sonic Boom Animated Series to Get New Games and Merchandise

Sega has finally broken their silence over their plans for a new animated series for Sonic the Hedgehog, dubbed “Sonic Boom.” The series is said to be CG-animated and will be coming to Cartoon Network this fall. Additionally, the launch of the series will be heralded by a multi-platform campaign that will see the creation of a new videogame for the Wii U and 3DS, as well as a new line of toys.

It is said that the TV series and the videogames will be based on the same narrative, with the games serving as a prequel to the show. Sonic Boom will consist of 52 x 11 minute episodes. You can check out the trailer below:
