Adult Swim scores big with Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III

Was the force with you? Cartoon Network recently rolled out a several-part Robot Chicken special entitled Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III, and fan reaction could not have been better! Filling out an hour of the Adult Swim program block, the episode focused on Emperor Palpatine, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Gary the Stormtrooper each revealing secret side stories that filled the Star Wars mythos. The Emmy Award winning Robot Chicken stop-motion animated series was heavily praised for Episode I and Episode II over the past few years, and fans were not disappointed with the completion of the trilogy, as ratings were far from the Dark Side.

Starting Monday, December 20th and running through Friday, December 24th (aka Christmas Eve), Nickelodeon will showcase an entire week of Glenn Martin, DDS episodes that feature a whole slew of special guest stars. The stop-motion animated toon will showcase an episode every evening at 10pm on Nick at Nite, all of which is kicked off with the first one-hour special (and brand new) episode of the toon, Camp, which will run this Friday, December 17th, also at 10pm. The Muppets are bringing Christmas to NBC about a week early this year! At 8pm on December 17th, the network will air A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa, a one-hour holiday special starring the Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Muppets. Kermit, Miss Piggy, Animal — the whole gang of Jim Henson’s creations will team up with Santa for the Christmas spirit, as the Muppets mistakenly avert three letters from making their way to Santa Claus in the North Pole–leaving three Christmas wishes at stake. Kermit rounds up his fearless friends to get to the North Pole before Santa makes his rounds on Christmas Eve and as usual, nothing — not even Miss Piggy’s planned trip to the tropics — can stand between the Muppets and a joyful Christmas.

Narrated by Fred Astaire, the vocal cast features Mickey Rooney as Kris Kringle, Keenan Wynn as Winter, Paul Frees as Burgermeister Meisterburger, Grimsby, the soldiers and the townsmen; Joan Gardner as Tanta Kringle, Robie Lester as Jessica and Andrea Sacino, Dina Lynn, Gary White and Greg Thomas as the children. Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town is a Rankin-Bass Production. It was directed and produced by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. and written by Romeo Muller.

Why, yes! Yes he will! Tonight, for the 46th time on TV, and 38th time on CBS, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will bring holiday joy to everyone watching. The special November 30th airing, which starts at 8pm, will be the first time the stop-motion animated special will run, but it wont be the last! As the longest-running holiday special in television history, the digitally remastered Rudolph special recounts the tale of a shy, young reindeer whose Christmas spirit is dampened because of his shiny red nose. Frustrated by their inability to join in Christmastown’s Reindeer games, Rudolph and his friend Hermey set out on their own, fleeing to the island of Misfit Toys in the Arctic wilderness with Yukon Cornelius. When they learn that bad weather may cause Christmas to be canceled, Santa tasks Rudolph to save the day! Check it out tonight, at 8pm on CBS!

Way back in 1939, Robert L. May wrote a brief holiday poem, hoping to inspire those who read it with the Christmas spirit. Fast forward 70 years, and that innocent little poem has grown into one of the most famous and iconic holiday superstars of all time, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The stop-motion animated special telling Rudolph’s story has run every year since 1964, introducing n00bs to the holiday hero at any chance. This year, just as it has done since 1972, the honor goes to CBS, debuting the one-hour special on November 30th at 8pm. It’s just not Christmas without it, so be sure you TOON in!!

Tonight, at 8pm, there’s a mystery to be solved. A mystery, that is, with a twistery. So who do you call for emergencies such as these? There’s only one man up for the job — er, one sponge, that is. SpongeBob SquarePants stars in Nickelodeon’s Mystery with a Twistery in tonight’s special. Mr. Krabs (voiced by Clancy Brown, who also plays Lex Luthor on Cartoon Network’s Justice League) has grown tired of dealing with his villainous rival Plankton, so he sends his secret recipe for Krabby Patty burgers to a far-away chest for safekeeping. Unfortunately, as soon as it’s out of his sight, Mr. Krabs forgets the recipe and sends SpongeBob and Patrick to retrieve it. Little do they know, Plankton follows them, bent on stealing the secret for his own. At 8pm, it’s game time.

Christmas just isn’t Christmas unless all the details are just right. The decorations, the snow, all of that helps — but really, we’re talking about all the awesome animated specials here. Some of them have been running for nearly 50 years, bringing generation after generation all of the excitement of the Christmas holiday season. Rudolph is one of those all-time classics, based on the poem that created the character back in 1939. In the mid 60s, the stop motion animated special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer first graced the airwaves on NBC, switching over to a regular appearance on CBS in 1972. In fact, the toon has become so popular and expected that it’s one of the few holiday specials the network airs more than once! The first of which will hit CBS on November 30th, at 8pm. Get in the spirit!
