Get Scared Shrekless tonight on NBC

Halloween is just around the corner, but that wont stop NBC and Universal Media Studios from debuting a new spooky special, Scared Shrekless. Based on DreamWorks Aniamtions’ mega popular Shrek film franchise, Scared Shrekless is an all-new special featuring Shrek and his favorite holiday; Halloween! To make this evening just right, Shrek invites his pals Fiona, Donkey, and Puss in Boots to Lord Farquaad’s haunted, abandoned castle — the perfect setting for some scary stories! As the stars sit amongst many other fairy tale characters, they’re eliminated one-by-one from the room, each scared Shrekless by the horrifying stories being told. The last one to remain will be victorious, but we know we’ll be watching the whole thing regardless! You? TOON in tonight, NBC, at 8pm for the adventure starring Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona, Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots, and Dean Edwards as Donkey.

That is of vital importance. Take a look at a clip of the toon in action, and if you’re able to stay awake for it, head to the pumpkin patch (living room?) and watch it tonight!!

Like clockwork – soothing, reassuring clockwork – the Peanuts celebrate every holiday with a special. And with ABC fully aware that Halloween is but days away, they’re throwing on one of the best in the collection of classics, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The Charles M. Schulz toon will run this Thursday, October 28th at 8pm on ABC, just as it nears it’s 50th anniversary, having first been shown in 1966. Linus hopes that, finally, he will be visited by The Great Pumpkin, while Charlie Brown is (finally!) invited to a Halloween party. Vince Guaraldi is the music composer, of course, bringing his melodic background flow to the likes of Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schroeder, and the rest.

Monsters vs. Aliens Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space

This Saturday, NBC and DreamWorks will showcase the Halloween special Monsters vs. Aliens Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space, one year after it debuted on the USA Network. In the special, the monsters join Susan (Ginormica) at her home for Halloween celebrations. Susan spends time with her parents, while the others trick-or-treat. However, that wasn’t their true intention. The Monsters came to destroy mutant pumpkins hidden in the Halloween decorations! When Dr. Cockroach discovers the mutants are after the candy – which they eat to grow larger – the monsters and costumed children must fight them off. Nothing says Halloween like a Monster and Mutant throwdown! TOON in on Saturday, October 30th, at 8:30 — immediately following Scared Shrekless.

Treehouse celebrates Dora the Explorer's 10th anniversary this Sunday

On Sunday, August 15th, Treehouse and the whole of Corus Entertainment will proudly celebrate Dora the Explorer’s 10th anniversary. The key to the celebration will be the debut of the primetime TV movie Dora’s Big Birthday Adventure at 6pm. The hour long special will also be airing on Nickelodeon in the US, so if you have a satellite that can pick up both channels, feel free to switch back and forth! Special guests include: Rosie Perez, John Leguizamo, and Hector Elizondo, amongst others. Even at ten years old, Dora shows no signs of slowing down! The iconic animated diva, created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh, and Eric Weiner, raked in about $2.5 billion in sales, this year alone. That could buy a lot of birthday presents!

With summer in full swing, the Peanuts Gang are back at it with a new baseball themed special: Lucy Must Be Traded, Charlie Brown. The episode reaches the ABC network on Wednesday, July 14th, at 8pm. Created by Charles M. Schulz, the characters started life in comic strips before moving to regular seasonal appearances on ABC, all featuring original music by Vince Guaraldi and David Benoit. After a whopping 900 losses, baseball team manager Charlie Brown will do anything for a win. The opportunity to trade Lucy might be his lucky ticket… but can new player Marcie finally lead the team to victory?

Turtles Forever, uncut and online

Turtles Forever Uncut

When we first heard of Turtles Forever, we were in TMNT heaven. Then crushed, when it was taken away. But then happy again when it was brought back as a TV movie. Unfortunately, many folks missed the airing, and with no specific talk of a DVD or theatrical release, the special was thought to be lost. But, ah, the joy of the internet! Thanks to awesome video sites, and the caring upload of loyal fans, Turtles Forever now lives online, in an unedited director’s cut format. So now, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actually are “forever”, as you can watch the entire special right here on ToonBarn! Check it out

Special Sonic Classic Collection to the Nintendo DS

Special Sonic Classic Collection to the Nintendo DS

If you’re going to ask my personal opinion, I think that the best Sonic games are the classic 2D games – that means two things; (1) I’m incredibly psyched about the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and (2) I am absolutely in love with the upcoming special Sonic Classic Collection for the Nintendo DS. The collection includes Sega’s first three Sonic games and Sonic & Knuckles, as well as a tin, art cards, and a Sonic figurine. Unfortunately (for me) as of right now, the collection will only be available in Spain and Australia, but Sega has not ruled out a wider distribution.
