John Lasseter and a witch reinvent the Disney Princess in Brave’s Merida

John Lasseter and a witch reinvent the Disney Princess in Brave's Merida

Merida faces a pretty hefty problem: she’s being married off to one of three potential suitors, and she sorta hates them all. So what’s a princess to do? Head to an old witch for help, of course! The witch grants Merida a wish, but it of course has consequences, turning the forest into a threatening wilderness. Of course, this doesn’t please her parents King Fergus and Queen Elinor, and also doesn’t necessarily sit well with the forest’s mysterious blue lights, called “wisps.” John Lasseter, head of Pixar, hopes to use Brave as a new benchmark for Disney Princess films, taking what he learned with Rapunzel in Tangled, and reinventing the fairytale genre. Sound like they’re on the right track yet?

Fanimation: Half Bear, Half Shark, All BearShark, a Harry Partridge creation

The world of fan animation is far and varied, with some individuals piecing together a flip book from post-its, and others grabbing studio time with AfterEffects and ProTools to produce theater-quality productions. From what we’ve seen of Harry Partridge’s work, he’s much closer to the latter. For years now, Happy Harry Toons have made themselves viral across the interwebs, including favorites like Saturday Morning Watchmen and The American Akira, with amazing quality, humor, and attention to detail. The latest effort, BearShark, perfectly falls in line with the rest; another masterpiece.

Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D becomes ChipWrecked

Few things sound more enjoyable than taking a trip around the tropics on a luxury cruise ship. Unless, of course, there’s constantly the angry yelling of the phrase, “Alvin!!!” in the background. With that in mind, you’ll likely not want to board with Alvin, Simon, and Theodore this December, when they cast off in the latest 3D adventure, Alvin and the Chipmunks ChipWrecked. The film, formally titled Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D, follows the Chipmunks and the Chipettes (Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor) turning the cruise ship into their personal playground until they become shipwrecked on a desert island. As David Seville searches frantically, the 6 critters do their best waiting for rescue by singing, dancing, and generally rocking the island! Oh, and maybe there’s some buried treasure. We’ll see.

Still somewhat early in development, the CN promises this computer animated cartoon will be ready for our TV-watching enjoyment next year. Perhaps most surprising, and maybe even a little exciting, is the decision to go before Ben 10: Ultimate Alien and Ben 10: Alien Force, and create a “prequel” of sorts during the original Ben 10 era; Ben, Gwen, and Grandpa Max solving cases with the original Omnitrix, just like the old days — and complete with all the original voice cast! Check out these teaser screen shots of the project in motion.

It might not be all that far fetched – especially after you see how great the oven mitts look! Check out the trailer right here, and let us know what you think!
