While many may have suspected the Christmas season of snow and presents was long gone, all this recent blizzard accumulation we’re getting hit with has us in a different state of mind! Today, December 17th, Warner Bros. makes the awesome into reality by bringing the legendary Yogi Bear to theaters. The CG and live action hybrid film (similar to the Alvin and the Chipmunks and Scooby-Doo films) is set to take a new generation by storm, breathing new life into the character who first appeared on The Huckleberry Hound Show in 1958. But Yogi’s more than just a supporting character – he’s smarter than the average bear! The production company combo of Hanna-Barbera Productions, De Line Pictures, Rhythm and Hues, and Warner Bros expect big things for the film – will you be buying a ticket?

Many toons have come and gone over the years, but few have remained “classic” in the true sense of the term. August Media Holdings and the properly named Classic Media group are hoping to dust off some true classics, breathing all new life into famous animated icons. Included in the mix are George of the Jungle, Underdog, Mr. Magoo, The Lone Ranger, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Richie Rich, and Little Lulu. Red Kite will handle many of the updates, which are essentially reinventions, in addition to testing the market for live-action hybrid movie possibilities, in the style of Alvin and the Chipmunks. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel DVD review

Alvin and the Chipmunks is box office gold. Even if you yourself have not seen either film, you know 20 people who have. The first film brought in over $200 million dollars in the US when it came out in 2007, only to be surpassed by the Squeakquel with $220 million earlier this year. With a third film on the way in 2011, in the luxuriously priced 3D format, Fox absolutely has a winner on it’s hands. Even better, with the quick turn around for the sequel from theaters to DVD and Blu-ray, we now have the movie in our hands. So how does the film hold up in the home edition?

If Fox has anything to say about it, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore will be back. The Chipmunks have scored big at the box office twice now, and once on home DVD – The Squeakquel movie comes home later this month. But fans have clamored for more of their favorite CG / live-action hybrid adventures, and Fox, New Regency, and Bagdasarian Pictures are happy to oblige! The third flick, which is touted to use the newly popular 3D methods, has already secured a release date of December 16th, 2011. Be sure to stay TOONed right here for updates!
