DreamWorks Animation brings Shrek Forever After to theaters

This weekend, Shrek Forever After, the fourth film in the Shrek franchise, powers it’s way into more than 4,300 theaters, making it the largest release for an animated movie of all time. The former top rank was Shrek 2, so DreamWorks Animation didn’t have far to go. Of the 4,300, 2,300 are showing the film in 3D, which bests Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland as the biggest release yet that comes with those neato little glasses. The first three Shrek films already total over $1billion at the box office, which means anything Shrek the Final Chapter brings in is simply additional icing on the swamp cake. Early results have already indicated a strong opening for the film – do you have plans to see it this weekend?

Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love. You in?
