South Park Nabs its Fifth Emmy

Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s long running animated comedy series South Park has been given an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program at the 2012 – 2013 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards, courtesy of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This marks the fifth time South Park has received an Emmy Award.

The episode that was given commendation was “Raising the Bar” which focuses on childhood obesity and features young reality show superstar Honey Boo-Boo. The series has also won the prestigious Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are said to be reducing the number of South Park episodes from their usual 14 (two 7-episode mini seasons) into a single season consisting of 10 episodes, starting on September 25. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new format was decided in order to give the duo some time to work on new projects, including a possible feature adaptation of their hit musical, Book of Mormon.

According to a New York Times report, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have just launched their own production studio, Important Studios, in order to pursue other film, TV, and Theater projects. The upcoming slate for their new studio includes a possible movie adaptation of The Book of Mormon.

Important Studios currently has an estimated value of $300 million based on revenue from Parker and Stone’s hit Comedy Central series South Park, which is currently in its 16th season, and the hit broadway version of The Book of Mormon.

It’s not spring until a new season of South Park comes to Blu-Ray and DVD! Ok, it’s nowhere near spring yet, but it’s never too early (or late or anything) to talk about South Park. According to TvShowsOnDVD.com, ‘South Park The Complete 15th Season’ will be released on March 27th on Blu-Ray and DVD. Both will come in widescreen format and the Blu-Ray will feature 5.1 Dolby TrueHD audio. Features of both include a behind the scenes video of the “City Sushi” episode and the Comedy Central special “6 Days to Air: The Making of South Park”.

When news first started surfacing concerning the South Park RPG being worked on by Obsidian, people initially started with disbelief, especially with regards to the claim about the game being a serious effort instead of a franchise milking one – but it soon died down when the creators Parker and Stone chimed in and lent their credibility in support of the upcoming game.

After thirteen long years and, admittedly, a dozen or more quality online games, Trey and Matt will try their hand once again at a South Park based console game! “South Park: The Game” will be a role-player for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC and is expected to debut sometime in the second half of next year. Some fans (ok, very few) may remember the South Park game for N64 that came out in 1998. Apparently it did pretty badly in the eyes of critics and, more importantly, in the eyes of gamers. Lucky for us, it lead to a slew of great online games to hold us over until now.

As a way of sticking it to the people (particularly former fans) who kept saying that South Park is on its last legs and should end soon, Comedy Central’s president Michele Ganeless has recently announced that the cable network has inked a new deal with the South Park creators.

In the premiere episode, Cartman believes he is suffering from the rare Asperger’s Syndrome, which, according to the episode title, seems like he clearly misunderstands. New South Park tonight on Comedy Central

South Park kicks off it’s 15th season tonight at 10pm on Comedy Central. And, also, XBOX Live. And iTunes. And Sony’s PlayStation Network and Amazon’s Video on Demand, and South Park Studios. The boys are everywhere! Seven all-new episodes will make up the first portion of this season, ensuring South Park will remain the highest-rated series on the laugh network. In case you miss the new guys, repeats will stream through the channel at midnight the same day, then again on Thursday and Friday, every week. The Trey Parker and Matt Stone toon will no doubt continue to be just as crass, and just as funny… and just as topical as ever! Be sure to TOON in tonight!
