For those of you who don’t know yet, back in December of 2013, Let’s Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast began airing episodes on iTunes and LetsVoltron.com (Part of the The Orange FM Podcast Network). The host of the show is ToonBarn Head Writer Marc Morrell, who started the show with Jeremy Corray. Jeremy was Creative Director of World Events Productions at the time. At the beginning of 2014, Jeremy had left WEP to pursue another position (VP of Digital Entertainment at Coolfire Studios). Jeremy handed the social media reigns for WEP over to RetroBlasting’s Michael French, who also became the co-host of the Let’s Voltron Podcast. Jeremy occasionally joins Marc and Michael as a guest host from time to time.

Voltron 30th Anniversary Preview Panel Interviews at NYCC

As we approach 2014, excitement is building to see what World Events Productions will do to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Voltron: Defender of the Universe. Voltron was introduced to US TV viewers on September 10, 1984, and the world has never been the same since. The phrase, “Form like Voltron” has been used in the media vernacular to signify a group of people coming together with one common goal that they share. Whether it’s an athletic team, a corporation, event organizers, or people working on a project, Voltron defines unity of purpose in this day and age.

The “Voltron Force” of fans were overflowing the room at New York Comic Con when the Voltron 30th Anniversary Preview Panel kicked off on October 13, 2013. The first 29 fans received a special fan-made print to celebrate the 29th Anniversary of Voltron.

When there’s a whole universe to defend, you’d better be a pretty big robot. Or, better yet, be a pretty big robot comprised of 5 pretty big lion robots. Think we’re joking around? Just ask Voltron, the start of the 1980s Classic Media cartoon as well as the recently relaunched series on Nickelodeon’s Nicktoons, Voltron Force. As if running two amazingly popular cartoons in two amazingly diverse decades wasn’t enough, now Voltron is headed to Sony’s PlayStation Network and Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade as a downloadable title. On November 29th, join the intergalactic battle in the new Voltron Defender of the Universe video game – that is, if you’re up to the challenge!

Mega thrusters are go! Voltron has long since been an amazingly popular animated franchise, ever since the transforming and merging Team Lion became a fixture of cartoons in the 1980s. Nickelodeon’s Nicktoons recently jumped on that lion-bandwagon, reviving the team once more for the animated series Voltron Force. Now, Atlas Entertainment and World Events Productions (WEP) have bigger ideas for the future, planning a Voltron: Defender of the Universe movie! The iconic figures, based on the original Japanese anime and manga Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, have only just begun their journey to the silver screen, with a planned hybrid mixture of live action and CG animation – likely not dissimilar from the recent Transformers blockbusters, like Dark of the Moon, that have so captured the imagination of audiences everywhere.
