Exclusive Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con Video Compilation

Stormtroopers have blasted onto the Tantive IV at Wizard World Philly Comic Con

ToonBarn’s coverage of Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con is now complete, or your journey to the Dark Side, whichever you prefer. If you were one of the lucky ones to be able to attend “Philly Comic Con”, as most of us like to call it, then you weren’t disappointed. Albeit, there wasn’t a panel of the 5 Star Trek Captains, like there was at last year’s convention, but it still had plenty of star power and great panels from some of your favorite franchises. William Shatner and Stan Lee returned to greet their hordes of fans. WWE Wrestler John Cena had a huge following, as did Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker, from Walking Dead fame. Fans of The Fonz from Happy Days got to catch up with Henry Winkler to see what he’s up to now. The Charmed and Firefly reunions were equally impressive, as tons of people showed up for the panels to walk down memory lane for 2 great sci-fi and fantasy TV shows.

Jon Schnepp talks about making Grimm Fairy Tales Animated Pilot at Wizard World Philly

Jon Schnepp talks to ToonBarn's Marc Morrell at Wizard World Philly

OK, Jon Schnepp and I want to take a few moments to talk to the “Over-15” crowd of people who love cartoons and animation. If you don’t know who Jon Schnepp is, Number 1: I feel sorry for you, ’cause he’s pretty awesome, Number 2: you are about to meet him in our one-on-one interview, and Number 3: I have to explain to you WHY you want to know him before you meet him.

If you are like me, you saw the original animated Heavy Metal movie from 1981, and liked it so much, you hoped to see something else like it soon after that. I remember seeing this collection of animated short stories that were shown as vignettes within a larger story that tied together the beginning and end of the movie. These stories were adapted from the graphic comic stories in Heavy Metal Magazine. It was definitely something fresh and new because it had nudity, blood, adult themes and violence unlike anything I had seen before in cartoons and animation. And the music soundtrack was freakin’ fantastic, with songs from Cheap Trick, Don Felder, Black Sabbath and Nazareth.

Fans come out to see Voltron at Wizard World St Louis

Fans come out to see Voltron at Wizard World St Louis

Our friend, Jeremy Corray, was flying the Voltron colors at Wizard World St Louis. As you recall from our interviews with Jeremy, he is the Creative Director for World Events Productions, the creators of Voltron, whose corporate headquarters are in St Louis, MO. This was the first Wizard World Comic Con ever from St Louis, so it was very special for Voltron to come out and greet the fans in his own backyard. We’ve compiled a few of the stories that covered this event for you here.
