Grab Darkness Rising on DVD for a Transformers holiday

Just about one year ago, The Transformers returned to TV via the joint venture of Discovery and Hasbro known as The Hub. It’s there that the animated series made famous in the 1980s was reborn for today’s audience, complete with a new look that merged the classic style of the original toon with the updated flair of the Michael Bay movies. Transformers Prime was introduced by a five part miniseries called Darkness Rising, foretelling the resurgence of the villainous Decepticon leader, Megatron. Now, Shout! Factory has beautifully stitched together the storyline into a single movie presentation, and is bringing it all home on DVD December 6th. Darkness Rising, just in time for the holidays!

When the Decepticon’s fill-in leader, Starscream, captures and kills the Autobot’s Cliffjumper, it’s up to Optimus Prime and the remaining Autobots to stand on their own against the evil forces of the Decepticons. But while everyone thinks the fight has familiar players, there’s suddenly word about the possible reappearance of the most deadly and powerful Decepticon of them all: Megatron.

Now returned, and fueled by Dark Energon, Megatron is ready to destroy the Autobots once and for all, letting Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Arcee, Ratchet, and Optimus to join Cliffjumper in his demise.

Megatron didn’t come alone, using his new powers to revive an army of undead Cybertronians – what’s worse, Megatron is hoping to build a space bridge between Earth and Cybertron to use the Dark Energon to power a world of undead warriors.
