Ninja Turtles Movie Delayed Again
It seems that Michael Bay’s planned Ninja Turtles movie reboot is riddled with problems since day one. The flood of criticism it got when it was first announced is well-documented, as fans did not receive the planned origin change well (basically, instead of being mutated by radioactive chemicals, the Turtles are now mutate reptilian spawns of aliens who have invaded our planet.) The outrage over the origin change seems to have settled down these days, probably because original co-creator Kevin Eastman has voiced his support of the changes.
Now, the Nickelodeon/Platinum Dunes feature seems to be encountering another setback as Deadline.com reports that Ninja Turtles will be pushed back to August 8, 2014, from its original June 6, 2014 release date. According to reps, the delay is meant to give more breathing room for the studio’s other big tentpole summer pic, Transformers 4.
The change in schedule brings with it another trouble, because it now puts the Ninja Turtles movie directly in competition with Marvel’s much anticipated big screen adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy, which premieres on August 1st, 2014. While it’s nowhere near the level of Avengers or Iron Man in terms of fan support, Marvel has a nice momentum going on these days that it will undoubtedly attract even non-Guardians of the Galaxy fans to give the movie a try.
