According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chris Columbus, whose past credits include directorial duties on Home Alone and the first three Harry Potter films, is in talks to direct Columbia’s forthcoming project, Pixels.
Pixels is an adaptation of a popular live-action/CG animated hybrid short by Patrick Jean, which depicts 1980s style videogame characters attacking New York City. Pixels is being executive produced by Jean, with Happy Madison’s Adam Sandler and Jack Giarraputo serving as the film’s producers.
The studio and the producers are aiming for a Ghostbusters-style action comedy in which characters come out of a video game in order to wreak havoc in the real world. The original draft was written by Tim Herlihy, which was then rewritten by Tim Dowling.
