Studio Ghibli has just released the first official trailer for their upcoming animated feature, When Marnie Was There, which is scheduled for a Japanese theatrical release this month. The film is a new project from Yonebayashi Hiromasa, whose last project was The Secret World of Arriety.
When Marnie Was There is based on the 1981 children’s book of the same name from Joan G. Robinson. The story focuses on an adopted girl that finds friendship in a ghost haunting the English seaside. The film adaptation moves the setting to Japan. The screenplay was written by Niwa Keiko (From Up on Poppy Hill) and Ando Masahi (Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke).
