FUNimation Acquires US Rights to Boy and Beast

Anime distribution titan FUNimation Entertainment has recently announced their acquisition of the North American rights for theatrical, digital, and home video release of Mamoru Hosoda and Studio Chizu’s The Boy and the Beast. The deal was cut after atalks with Gaumont, which currently holds worldwide sales rights outside of Asia.

“We are looking forward to working with Gaumont International and plan to release The Boy and the Beast to theaters beginning in late 2015,” said Mike DuBoise, the executive VP and COO of FUNimation. “We’re confident that critics and moviegoers will quickly agree that this is an Oscar-worthy film.”

The Boy and the Beast follows the story of a renowned martial arts fighting beast and a young orphan boy that he has taken under his wing, as they brave challenges while learning how to understand each other. FUNimation is planning to roll out a limited theatrical release later this year, followed by a nationwide release in early 2016.
