Voltron Black Lion Collectible Sells Out in 19 Minutes!
For people who collect toys based on cartoons, or for people who just like really cool toys, MattyCollector, the collectibles arm of Mattel, just sold the last of the Voltron Lion Collection: Black Lion, in record time. When the site posted the Black Lion available at Noon, it only took 19 minutes to sell out!
Black Lion came with a poseable figure of Commander Keith Kogane of the Voltron Force, as well as the final piece (Sword piece #5) of the Blazing Sword (for those who were lucky enough to register early as a Club Lion Force Member, and collect all 5 Lions). Collectors who collected all 5 Lions can now form VOLTRON: Defender of the Universe, a massive 2 feet in height, weighing more than 10 pounds!
ToonBarn was there at New York Comic Con to see the Black Lion and the fully-assembled Giant Voltron at the MattyCollector.com booth. We talked with Scott Neitlich (Sr. Brand Analyst – Mattel) about the Voltron Collectibles at MattyCollector.com, and we even had a visit from a special guest you all know and love. Anything can happen at New York Comic Con. Check out the video below to see what happened during our interview with Scott.
Here’s some background information on Scott Neitlich, known as the “Toy Guru”, to everyone that knows him in the Toy Industry:
Born in Cheshire Connecticut, Scott has been a life long toy fan fondly remembering his Masters of the Universe toys which came with him when his family moved to Orange County California during elementary school. After graduating from University High School in Irvine, he attended the University of California Santa Barbara graduating with a double major in Film Studies and Communication.
Following a four-year stint as a writer in an ad agency, he went on to pursue his passion in the toy industry landing a gig as a staff writer for Mattel’s Hot Wheels brand, helping to work on basic cars and track sets. Soon after, he moved into the action play marketing group and helped start up the Mattycollector.com website as well as brand managing Mattel’s, DC Universe, Justice League, Ghostbusters and Master of the Universe Classics toy lines. He is also currently hard at work on the Green Lantern film toy line.
Scott lives in Culver City California with his wife Barbara and newborn baby girl Leah Sophia, who is already collecting She-Ra figures.
