Voltron: Legendary Defender Interviews & Panel at WonderCon

ToonBarn Head Writer Marc Morrell went to WonderCon as the host of Let’s Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast to attend the DreamWorks Animation panel for Voltron: Legendary Defender, the new Netflix Series, launching the the first season of 13 episodes on June 10.

For Voltron Fans, this marked a new era in the Voltron fandom. Voltron fans had been waiting for a new series from DreamWorks Animation since they heard that DreamWorks had acquired Classic Media back in 2012, and since the Nicktoons series, Voltron Force, failed to get a second season, or even a toy line, for that matter.

So, you can imagine how excited fans were at WonderCon to see their first glimpse of a brand new Voltron show, made by the same production crew that made The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender for Nickelodeon. Plus, it had been announced that the show would be distributed worldwide on Netflix, and NY Toy Fair had seen the announcement that Playmates Toys would be launching the full Voltron toy line to support this new show in Spring 2017.

Yes… heads did explode.

The packed Room 151 at the Los Angeles Convention Center was delighted to be introduced to most of the new cast of the show, as well as the showrunners and story editor. Then, as they learned more about the show, the characters, and how this show passes the Voltron “squint test”, they saw 3 video clips from the new show, and a trailer that has yet to be released. Everyone at the panel was also given a Voltron lithograph, as you see below.

After the euphoria of the hour-long panel that introduced Voltron: Legendary Defender to the world, the press interviews followed. We have some exclusive video interviews, where you will see Marc talk to Joaquim Dos Santos (Executive Producer) and Lauren Montgomery (Co-Executive Producer), Jeremy Shada (Lance), Tyler Labine (Hunk), and Tim Hedrick (Story Editor).

All of these video interviews are provided by Let’s Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast, which has a 2-Part Podcast series, covering all of the action from The Interviews and The Panel at WonderCon.

I am a Big Fan of all types of animation. Like a lot of things, the cream always rises to the top. My favorites have included Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels, anything Pixar, Phineas and Ferb, Voltron Legendary Defender, and the DC/WB Animated Films. I have a lot of Old School favorites as well, such as Star Blazers, Voltron, Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, and Scooby Doo.
