New Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie In Development

4K Media has recently announced that a new anime movie from the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise is being developed in Japan, and the company is currently looking for a distributor in territories outside of Asia. There are still no details regarding the movie itself, but fans probably agree that it’s better late than never, as it’s been four years since we had a Yu-Gi-Oh film (via 2010’s Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time)

“We’re thrilled to bring the Yu-Gi-Oh! characters back to theater screens for their enthusiastic fan base,” says Kristen Gray, 4K Media senior vice president operations, business and legal affairs. “It’s a major piece in the robust resurgence of the brand that will have significant implications moving forward.”

In spite of its age, the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise remains popular and is currently enjoying its 14th consecutive year of broadcast in the U.S. and other major markets in the world. The brand also enjoys a good following through their best selling trading card game and other merchandise tie-ins.

I’ve loved this franchise for years, but “Remains popular?” “Currently enjoying?” Has 4K/Konami SEEN what Nicktoons and Vortexx have done to these shows? Not to mention it doesn’t do well in the ratings anymore. By the way, we STILL don’t know when/where the rest of ZEXAL, and even Arc-V will air. My guess: They’ll end up on the Yu-Gi-Oh! website only.
