Nintendo Celebrates the Legend of Zelda’s 25th Anniversary

The Legend of Zelda

Happy 2012 my fellow barn animals!

As 2012 opens we look back at the year 2011 to see what was the best and most inspiring thing that came into the year. What was it you say? Why it’s the 25th anniversary of “The Legend of Zelda” of course!

In 2011 Nintendo celebrated the 25th anniversary of The legend of Zelda in 2011’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (Otherwise known as E3 expo) and opened their conference with an Orchestra performance. Not only did Nintendo celebrate,  the fans also joined in the celebration by remembering all of the past games they have been playing for over the years. Either being  old fans from the NES days or new fans who are only starting to get hooked on Link’s current gen adventures. The young hero Link has been battling Ganondorf  and winning our hearts all throughout these 25 years, as he went on tirelessly saving princess Zelda and slaying wicked monsters.

Lets take a  quick look into the past and see how Link started his Adventure (a gaming history lesson you all need to learn if you want to be in the gaming industry. Click the words that are in blue and underline for a quick look up if you don’t know what they mean, kids. Like cartridge, Famicom, Gameboy, etc.)

For all of you who were born in the early 90’s or before the 90’s and were a kid watching all these Nickelodeon shows then you’ll be glad that all of them are back on Teen Nick!  And now instead of reminiscing of your favorite shows and cartoons now you can watch them.  Shows such as: All That , The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Kenan and Kel, The Amanda Show, CatDog, Family Double Dare, GUTS, Hey Arnold!, Hey Dude, Clarissa Explains it All, Legends of the Hidden Temple, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Rocket Power, Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rugrats, Salute Your Shorts, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Weinerville, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Are You Afraid of the Dark?. . . Hopefully these shows will get rotated (as in what was heard) and if they are then the 90’s are back! It was said that Nickelodeon was more successful in the 90’s and without us the Nickelodeon channel wouldn’t be as big as today so you can thank us 😉

E3 2011: X-Men Destiny for Marvel

E3 2011: X-Men Destiny for Marvel

School is still in session for Marvel’s X-Men: First Class, but that hasn’t stopped the House of Mouse from expanding the Mutant’s universe further with a new video game title, X-Men: Destiny. Disney will bring the game to the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS this September, allowing fans to pop claws, shoot eye lasers, control weather, or otherwise “get their Mutant on.” Gamers can choose from three characters, then select the skills your character learns. These three have their own fighting style (like any mutant does) and your selected character will have special skills that you’ve picked out for them.

E3 2011: Disneyland Adventures for XBox Kinect

E3 2011: Disneyland Adventures for XBox Kinect

Ahhh Disneyland. The happiest place on Earth. …and on Xbox 360? At this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, aka E3 2011, Microsoft’s keynote conference confirmed that Disneyland Adventures is coming on the 360 for Kinect. This unique video game lets you have fun and play around in a virtual copy of Disneyland. The entire theme park is duplicated for your (and your avatar’s!) enjoyment. You can stroll around, check out the attractions, and even play mini games with characters like Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan! When can you play? Well, truthfully, we don’t know yet, as the release date has yet to become official. But rest assured, soon enough, you can play with your friends at Disneyland, without ever leaving your living room.

Remembering Cartoon Network’s Toonami

Remembering Cartoon Network's Toonami

Good morning / afternoon / evening fellow ‘Barn animals!  Were you there the day Toonami first arrived on Cartoon Network? Even if you weren’t, do you remember watching Toonami? And, most depressingly, do you remember the day they killed (er… “canceled”) our beloved Toonami? Sad day wasn’t it? *tear* For over a decade, Toonami (a tidal wave of cartoons; mixing “cartoon” and “tsunami”) reigned across the CN, boasting dozens of action toons, anime, and more. The space-based theme and logo first hit our TVs on March 17th, 1997, replacing Power Zone, and ran until September 20th, 2008. The block always featured a host: originally, Moltar (of Space Ghost fame) pulled the levers. When the Ghost Planet Industries building gave way to the Ghost Planet Spaceship Absolution, the CG and robotic TOM (and, later, TOM 2) took over as host. And, sadly, we haven’t had a Toonami block since. …or have we…?

E3 2011 Game: Kirby Dream Land 4 Wii, Right back at ya

Nintendo is bringing yet another Kirby game and this time he’s not in a loop *get it? Because they made Epic Yarn? Yes? Sorry that was bad I’ll shut up and get back to discussing*.  HAL Laboratory and Satoru Iwata are still working on the Kirby game, so not much is known about the new game yet. But Iwata released a new Kirby trailer so not all is lost and it seems like the game can have up to four players. So now you can play Kirby with your buds! Kirby is said to fly into your Nintendo Wii consoles later this year.

Google celebrates BusyTown creator Richard Scarry’s 92nd Birthday

Google Doodle recently honored the creator of “BusyTown” Richard Scarry, who would have been 92 this week. Richard Scarry’s BusyTown, or shall I say “one of the best children’s books / cartoon ever,” was later transformed into a cartoon on Nickelodeon’s younger network, Nick Jr., and ran from 1995 to 2000. The toon, which went by the name “The Busy World of Richard Scarry,” was sadly never seen by Scarry, himself, having died just a year prior to it’s launch. However, we’re sure he would have been proud to see his creation live on — and now immortalized by Google!

E3 2011: Nintendo Wii U Revealed

E3 2011: Nintendo Wii U Revealed

Nintendo recently revealed their new console Wii 2 – well actually its now known as Nintendo Wii U. The new console comes with a very interesting controller. The controller is like an iPad but better, With this you can sit and watch your own screen while your friends and or family play on the television screen with their “wiimotes,” and when your parents, girlfriend, boyfriend, or other friend want to bug you about interrupting your game to watch some boring movie or show (unless it’s animated!) you can easily switch from the television screen right on to your Wii U controller and continue on playing from there. Now you can play your favorite games such as Kirby, Zelda, Pokemon, Mario without being interrupted. You can video chat with friends and family, draw on it and wait, there’s more!
