Variety has recently reported that the upcoming animated series Beware The Batman has been put on hold and is currently undergoing a review in the wake of the recent shootings in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises.
According to the Variety report, WB Animation executive VP Sam Register asked producers of the series to pore through the existing episodes and scrutinize depictions of weapons. It’s been said that an unspecified number of alterations were then made to some designs and situations in the series in order to minimize the amount of weapon imagery that is deemed to realistic.
The review process will be expensive, since the alterations will be as detailed as changing the shape of gun barrels from round to square in order to give weapons a more sci-fi, stylized design.
According to sources, Register – who is an executive producer of the show – ordered the changes as a proactive measure based on his own decision, and it was not an order given by high ranking execs in the conglomerate.
