WarnerMedia’s Cartoon Network channels in Asia are adding a new anime title to their lineup. The broadcaster has picked up Time Bokan 24 for linear across its Bahasa Malay, Cantonese, English, Mandarin and Thai feeds.
After first debuting on Warner’s channel in Taiwan in the fall of 2018, the series is now expanding into multiple new regions. The Philippines-specific Cartoon Network saw the show debut on October 6th of this year, while the rest of the Southeast Asian feeds (Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, etc.) are set to receive the show beginning November 23rd.
In the 24th century, humankind accomplished the invention of a time machine, “Time Bokan”. As they discover the truth about history, they realize that the history written in their textbooks are all wrong! To correct their knowledge of history, the government developed an organization called JKK (Space-time Administrative Bureau). Our hero Tokio is recruited by Karen, a girl from the future to join the JKK. Together they travel through time to discover the true history, along with fighting the “Akudarma” a villainous group whose goal is to prevent the discovery of the truth!
The series is a re-imaging of Tatsunoko’s classic scifi-comedy franchise Time Bokan, which dates back to 1975. Tatsunoko produced the new show in partnership with Yo-Kai Watch creators Level-5. It aired on Japan’s Nippon Television Network between 2016 and 2018. The first season of the reboot spanned 24 x 22-minute episodes before receiving a second season of the same order. As it aired, anime streaming service Crunchyroll distributed the show internationally in Japanese with English subtitles.
WarnerMedia APAC acquired the rights to the new entry from Yomiuri Television and is producing the dubs in conjunction with SDI Media. The Southeast Asian Cartoon Networks have a history with the Time Bokan franchise. In 2011, the channel aired an English dub of Yatterman!, the 2008 re-imagining of the second entry in the Time Bokan franchise.
