Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL Gameplay from Comic Con 2011

Not that long ago, Cartoon Network teamed with Papaya Studio and Crave Entertainment to bring Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion to the Nintendo 3DS. The general premise was awesome: take a dozen or so iconic characters from the network’s lineup (Ben 10, Chowder, Dexter, Samurai Jack, etc.) and have them square off in a fighter like Super Smash Bros. Well, now, thanks to some great footage from New York Comic Con 2011, we see that development has really come on strong for the home edition, Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL, out soon for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii. The larger version of the game features new characters, new stages, new Synergy Attacks, and new gameplay modes, totally enhancing the original experience. In addition to icons like Johnny Bravo, Captain Planet, some of the playable characters include:

Jack, The Scotsman, and Aku from Samurai Jack
Vilgax, Kevin Levin, Ben Tennyson from Ben 10, and teenage Ben from Ben 10: Ultimate Alien
Grim, Hoss Delgado, Billy and Mandy from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy
Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Mojo Jojo from The Powerpuff Girls
Flapjack, and Captain K’nuckles from The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack
Chowder and Kimchi from Chowder
Dexter and Monkey from Dexter’s Laboratory
Mac and Bloo from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
Father, Numbuh 1, The Toiletnator from Codename: Kids Next Door


Better still, each of the characters (including the dozens of non-playable characters) all feature elements from their own animated series. For example, Samurai Jack will also wield a blade and feature an alternate ninja costume. And don’t just expect Ben 10 to be a young guy in a green coat with a cool watch – many of his alien forms, like Humongousaur and Echo Echo, will work their way into the fight, as well.

No official word yet on a release date, though everything is pointing towards sometime this December, just in time to battle it out over the winter holiday.
