DreamWorks Releases Bird Karma and Bilby Shorts Online
DreamWorks Animation has just released two animated short films online, both of which are included in the 10 animate shorts that are vying for a nomination at the 91st Academy Awards. The first one is the 2D animated Bird Karma, which is directed by William Salazar and tells the story of a long-legged bird who admires a gloriously colored fish. When he finally manages to capture and eat the object of his admiration, he learns the consquences. You can watch the short below:
The second short, titled Bilby, runs in the opposite direction. It seems to be geared more towards the topic of protection, as opposed to predation: it follows the desert-dwelling marsupial Perry through the trials and tribulations of “parenthood” after he saves a poor little chick from predators. The film is also CG animated as opposed to 2D animated. Bilby is directed by animator, storyboard artist and character designer Pierre Perifel, supervising animator JP Sans, and character lead animator Liron Topaz, and produced by Kelly Cooney over a roughly 10-month span.
