Rainbow, the company behind Winx Club, has unveiled an all-new animated series named 44 Cats. Their first collaboration with the Vancouver-based animation studio Bardel Entertainment (which Rainbow acquired in 2015), the comedic feline follies is aimed at ages 3-6, with an initial episode order of 52 x 13 minutes. The CG show has an estimated budget of US$9 million and draws inspiration from the 1968 Italian song “Quarantaquattro gatti.”
Here’s the first trailer:
44 Cats is about how cats see our world and how they live when we’re not around.
Our cats look at the adult human world like kids do — as outsiders, with a unique, innocent, and comically honest view. But this isn’t a show about cats and kids. Or even cats and humans. It’s about how cats live when we’re not around. Our cats are on their own, but still in our world.
The series has already been sold to Super RTL in Germany, where it’ll debut on the channel in 2019. Italian broadcaster RAI is co-producing the show and will launch it later this year.
44 Cats is the key title Rainbow is showcasing at MIPTV this week, alongside the venerable Winx Club. The company originally announced the new project at last year’s event, where its development trailer became one of the most watched of shows presented.
