As another addition to the recent string of 80s and 90s cartoons / toylines / video games that will get a big screen adaptation, Walden Media has recently purchased the movie rights to Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. Worth noting is the fact that producing the movie will be the task of an actress/singer named Jennifer Lopez.
While it is not entirely farfetched to think that J-Lo herself will use the film as a vehicle for her return to the big screen, no confirmation has been made outside of her off screen involvement. The details about the plot has been elaborated on, though – with Where in the World is Carmen San Diego’s film adaptation said to be an interesting blend of story elements from National Treasure and The Thomas Crown Affair, which seems par for the course with the franchise.
According to the official logline for the film:
“When the ACME agency’s greatest detective Carmen Sandiego becomes the world’s greatest thief, it’s up to her former partner to follow her clues and track her down. Their cat and mouse game leads the partner to confront a greater mystery: is Carmen really a thief or a hero?”
