According to a recent report from Variety, Warner Bros.’ new fully-animated Scooby Doo feature, titled “Scooby,” has recently added Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez and SNL alum Will Forte to its cast. Rodriguez and Forte will be voicing Velma and Shaggy, respectively.
Scooby will be directed by Tony Cervone (Scooby-Doo! And KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery, The Looney Tunes Show, Duck Dodgers), with Harry Potter vet Chris Columbus as creative producer. The script is being written by Matt Lieberman, who also has The Addams Family and Monster on the Hill in the works.
Aside from his experience as a comedic actor, Will Forte can also leverage his experience doing various animation voice over work, which includes playing Drexx on Syfy’s Alien News Desk, as well as his roles in The LEGO Movie 1 and 2, Luis & the Aliens, My Life as a Zucchini and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 1 and 2.
Rodriguez might not be as known for her work in animation, but she did have some notable voice over work on feature films Smallfoot, Ferdinand, and The Star, as well as her recurring role on Big Mouth as Gina, on Elena of Avalor as Princess Marisa, and her recent gig in the main role of Netflix’s revival of Carmen Sandiego.
