Spider-Man Beats Batman in China

In order to put a restriction on the grosses of foreign movies, China Film Group has chosen to open Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man on the same day as Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight Rises last Monday, August 17 in China. While both comic book-based movies fared well on the box office, it is interesting to note that Spider-Man managed to outdo The Dark Knight Rises with its $5.46 million cume, compared to the Dark Knigth’s $4.45 million.

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel set for theaters May 2, 2014

Even though we’re still a full year away from the SpiderMan relaunch, which officially begins with The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3rd 2012, Sony is already hard at work on the film’s sequel! The rebooting franchise will have a second movie in theaters just about 20 months later, when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 spins a web on May 2nd, 2014. James Vanderbilt will craft the sequel, just as he has the first movie, and Andrew Garfield will swing along, as well. Other than that, not much more is known about the sequel at this time – which seems about right, because there’s not that much information on the first film yet!

When Activision and Disney’s Marvel get together, good things happen. This time around, it’s the upcoming Spider-Man game, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. In this game, due out September 7th, players can work through four different dimensions of the Spider-Man mythos; the Marvel world (home to the Amazing Spider-Man), Noir (a 1930s version of Spider-Man), Spider-Man 2099 (the Spider-Man of a possible future), and Ultimate Spider-Man (where Spidey is currently bonded with the Venom symbiote). The mastermind behind most of Marvel’s creations, Stan Lee, recently sat down to pass a few words on the upcoming Nintendo DS, PC, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 game.
